Ted Curley - Beloved SNS Official

Daryn Glasgow

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Sierra Nevada Swimming (SNS) official, Ted Curley, who passed away this past Sunday.

Ted dedicated over 23 years as an official and served on the Officials Committee and SNS Board for many of those years.

Ted was much more than an official—he was a mentor, a brother, and a true friend to so many throughout the LSC. He embodied the spirit of service and community, always placing others before himself. Ted’s unwavering commitment to the sport of swimming and to the people around him made a lasting impact that will not be forgotten.

There was nothing Ted wouldn’t do to support the LSC. Whether it was advocating for fairness on the pool deck, stepping up when something wasn’t right, or serving on the LSC Board, Ted always led with integrity. He traveled far and wide to support swim meets, often going out of his way—literally—to help others. One time, despite accidentally booking a hotel in the wrong location, he made extra trips just to pick up multiple groups of officials and ensure they all made it to the meet.

One proud achievement for Ted was serving as the meet referee for the 2024 Bill Rose Classic Long Course Championship. He said that it was on his bucket list, a meaningful honor tied to his deep respect for Bill Rose and love for the Sierra Nevada community.

Ted’s love for others was genuine and selfless. He’d call you “brother” and truly mean it—always asking how you were doing, and always caring about the answer.  He would text you or send you an email on your birthday or other special occasions, always thinking of others.

Ted’s presence, warmth, and leadership will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. For those who did not know Ted, you will see many of his characteristics and traits in the SNS officials you work with. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and the entire swimming community.
