Introducing SNS Director of Operations: Mary Ellen Tynan

Mary Ellen Tynan brings more than 15 years of experience supporting USA Swimming Local Swimming Committees (LSCs), clubs, athletes, and leadership teams across the country. She joins Sierra Nevada Swimming as Director of Operations with a strong background in operational management, event coordination, communications, and governance compliance.

Mary Ellen has served in key administrative and leadership roles with multiple LSCs, including Maine Swimming, Wyoming Swimming, New England Swimming, and North Texas Swimming. Her experience includes managing LSC offices, sanctioning meets, maintaining governing documents, supporting Boards of Directors, organizing championship meets and zone teams, and coordinating major events such as annual banquets, Olympian clinics, and national-level registrations.

A consistent focus of Mary Ellen’s work has been athlete leadership development. Through mentorship and support, she has helped numerous athletes advance into Zone and National Committee roles, including service on the USA Swimming Athlete Executive Committee. She currently serves as Chair of the USA Swimming LSC Development Committee.

In addition to her LSC experience, Mary Ellen has supported club operations as a team administrator for multiple large, multi-site swim programs, providing expertise in registrations, meet entries, travel planning, billing, and website management.

Mary Ellen holds a Ph.D. in Nutrition from the University of Maryland and is both a Registered Dietitian and a USA Swimming Official. Her unique combination of organizational leadership, attention to detail, and passion for the swimming community makes her a strong asset to Sierra Nevada Swimming as it continues to grow and serve its membership.
