CODE OF CONDUCT

Havasu Stingrays Swim Team

The mission of Havasu Stingray Swim Team (HSST) is to encourage participation in and the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of swimming. HSST grants the privilege of membership to individuals and families committed to that mission. The privilege of membership may, therefore, be withdrawn or denied at any time if HSST determines that a member or prospective member's conduct is inconsistent with the mission of the team or the best interest of the sport and its participants.

It is the obligation of all HSST volunteers, coaches, parents/guardians, swimmers, and spectators to create an environment that supports that code of conduct, maintains a positive reputation of the team, and preserves the relationships with people and organizations that contribute to the success of HSST. To promote individual and team excellence both in and out of the water, the following Code of Conduct has been established.

Competitive Member (swimmer):

  • ●  Treat fellow teammates, coaches, parents/guardians, Aquatic Center staff, meet officials, parent volunteers, and swimmers of other swim teams with courtesy and respect.

  • ●  Demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times during practice and meets.

  • ●  Set a positive example of behavior and work ethic for younger teammates.

  • ●  Respect the personal space and feelings of other swimmers. This includes not interfering with

workouts of other swimmers. Those who exhibit sexist, racist, homophobic, or otherwise

inappropriate behavior will be faced with consequences.

  • ●  Refrain from foul language, violence, behavior deemed dishonest, offensive, or illegal.

  • ●  Show respect for all facilities and other property (including locker rooms) during practices,

competitions, and team activities. This includes not possessing weapons or other dangerous

    items at any time.

  • ●  Be punctual and attend all team meetings and training sessions, unless excused by the coach.

  • ●  Represent the Havasu Stingray Swim Team in a manner that will promote the program, sport

and members in the highest regard. This includes all forms of social media. Using social media to disparage the team, coaches, volunteers, or fellow swimmers and parents/guardians will not be tolerated.

  • ●  Refrain from being with someone of the same in the same room with the door closed without adult supervision At no time will male and female athletes be in the same room together. This applies to HSST members or members of any other team.

  • ●  Not possess and/or use illegal substances, as well as possess and/or use tobacco, e-cigarettes, and any form of “vaping”, and alcohol. Likewise, swimmers will not abuse prescription or non- prescription drugs and will avoid being in the presence of others (regardless of team affiliation) partaking in any of the above activities.

Parent/Guardian:

  • ●  Set the right example for our children by demonstrating sportsmanship and showing respect and common courtesy at all times to the team members, coaches, competitors, officials, parents, and all facilities.

  • ●  Get involved by volunteering, observing practices, cheering at meets, and talking with my child and their coach about their progress (before/aer practice and/or meets).

  • ●  Refrain from coaching from the deck during practices or at meets. Parents are not allowed on the move-able bulkhead, unless directed by the coach.

  • ●  Refrain from criticizing, yelling, name-calling, using abusive language or gestures towards coaches, officials, volunteers, and/or any swimmers. This behavior will not be tolerated.

  • ●  Refrain from behavior that discredits or brings discord to the Havasu Stingrays Swim Team. This includes all forms of social media communication. Using social media to disparage the team, coaches, volunteers, or fellow swimmers and parents/guardians is not acceptable.

  • ●  Refrain from approaching meet officials or timers during a meet, as this is a USA swimming violation. If there is a disagreement with an officialʼs call, the concerns will be directed to the coach.

  • ●  Learn and adhere to all of USA Swimmingʼs rules and codes of conduct.

The parentsʼ role is one of support to the swimmers, coaches and program. If not resolved with the coach directly, the concern should be brought to the attention of the board.

The coachsʼ role is one of teaching swimming skills and sportsmanship to the swimmers. The coach is responsible for monitoring the behavior of the swimmers and spectators during practice and meets as well as adhering to the above code of conduct.

Board of Directors:

It is the Board of Directors obligation to maintain the integrity of HSST and to make sure ALL members and coaches promote the objectives listed in the HSST Code of Conduct. It is also the boardʼs responsibility to consider any questions or concerns presented to them by any HSST member or coach. Any decisions made by the Board of Directors will be objective and unbiased and will remain final.

Those who willfully violate this HSST Code of Conduct jeopardize their membership with the Havasu Stingrays Swim Team. Any member, former member, or prospective member of HSST is subject to the jurisdiction of the Board of Directors for review and may be denied membership.
