THE NEXT GENERATION OF COACHES
We are excited to announce the launch of the Junior Coaching Program! This program will help ensure the future success of competitive swimmers by providing individuals with the opportunity to observe our practices while also getting experience providing swim instruction to the athletes and developing their own coaching style. Not only with this program benefit our young athletes as they will get more assistance with stroke development and building their endurance, but the volunteer junior coaches will also be able to develop hard (hands-on experience, safety training, continued education, etc.) and soft (leadership, communication, teamwork, etc.) skills.
The ideal candidates for this program would come from the Lake Havasu High School Swim Team and/or the Havasu Stingrays and have a strong knowledge of USA Swimming Rules & Regulations. The Junior Coach would assist in providing leadership, instruction and motivation for swim team participants. All Junior Coaches must complete:

Athlete Protection Training (free, with parent/guardian approval if under 18 years)

Background check (paid for by HSST, if 18 years or older)
Additionally, the Havasu Stingrays Swim Team will provide opportunities for returning Junior Coaches to have continuing education and additional USA Swimming, American Red Cross, and/or American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) trainings.
Minimum Requirements: Parents, siblings, high school and swimmers at least 13 years old are welcome to apply. Candidates must have: competitive swimming experience; strong communications and organizational skills; interest and ability to work with children and swimmers of various abilities; and a desire to learn. This volunteer position would be committed to working a weekly schedule during the agreed upon season. Dates and times for each practice group vary and are listed on the team website.
Essential Functions:

Be attentive and alert at all times.

Assist coaching staff in implementing age/skill-appropriate workouts focused on technique, stroke development and endurance.

Be prepared to provide in-water instruction and demonstration.

Know the governing rules for the designated practice group(s).

Attend swim team events such as meets, meetings, social events, etc.

Help maintain a clean and safe environment for swim team participants.

Assist coaching staff with administrative matters relating to the team, swim meet arrangements and team performance as requested by the Head Coach.

In difficult situations, refer swimmers or parents/guardians to the Head Coach or Board Member in order to resolve conflicts in a timely manner. Do not attempt to rectify or solve the issue.
