According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Labor Day "is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being." How does this relate to competitive swimming? Easy. As athletes, we very much rely on our bodies; they work hard all day bearing the brunt and continue to often push through pain and exhaustion. Before we are even born, we experience the wonders of swimming with our moms--feeling weightless, safe, and tranquil. Then we are taken to "Mommy and Me" swim programs where we learn to trust ourselves more, become more comfortable, and take those first strokes. As athletes sometimes we forget all that our parents (especially our moms) do in support of us. The financial and time commitment; motivating us on those days we just don't want to practice. With an outdoor year-round swim team they: freeze, get blown away, are more wet...

For example, whereas a 50-yard freestyle in short course has a flip turn and return back to the finish (two laps), a 50-meter freestyle in a long course is one lap...

During the 1920’s, women were not only fighting for the right to vote, they were also fighting for equality in activities such as swimming. They believed that they would be furthering equality by showing their athletic side and fighting for more equal clothing options. Up to and during the 1920’s, women were required to be...

"Believe it or not, the history books recount many presidents who loved to swim, even before the White House had a swimming pool, when the Potomac River served as a great place to take a dip. According to Swimming World Magazine, the White House now actually has two swimming pools. Franklin D. Roosevelt who suffered from polio, which permanently paralyzed his legs, used swimming as a form of therapy. When he became president the New York Daily News put on a campaign to raise money to build an indoor pool...

Please remember that this Monday, January 17th the pool is closed in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We hope that you take this opportunity to reflect with your swimmers on how people such as MLK have impacted the many things we sometimes take for granted like the right to swim (click to learn more about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and the Right to Swim). Frog Aquatics was created in an effort to provide all youth 7-18 years of age (who meet prerequisites) in the Antelope Valley...
