Coaches

Availability of Coaches:

The club office hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If a call is received outside of these hours, it will be tended to during the next office time. All the coaches can be reached by text or email. If you would like to meet with a coach, each is available, but you must email the coach first to set up the meeting. Each of the coaches is also around the pool prior to and after practice. The coach is not available to discuss items while the practice is running.

Melina Jenkins (coach @ reginamarlins.com)

Fun fitness and coaching each individual is Melina's coaching philosophy. She believes that training should be hard work but if it isn’t enjoyable it can create mental blocks and challenges that impede the athlete’s growth. Melina has a deep passion for sports that started as a child. She now coaches because she believes in the way sports can positively impact a child’s life.

Born and raised right here in Regina, Melina grew up playing every sport you can imagine. Beginning with gymnastics at age five, Melina went on to play soccer both recreationally and competitively. Swimming became an integral part of Melina’s life at age 11 when she joined the Regina Marlins. She excelled in Sprints and especially enjoyed swimming the Fly and Free. Melina held many Marlins records during her young swimming career which she now boasts have been broken by athletes she has since coached.

The highlight of her swimming career came when she was named to the Canada Games Team for Saskatchewan in 2001. Melina qualified for CIS Championships in her first year of University. She also held the record for the 50 Free while attending and competing at the University of Regina. Unfortunately a shoulder injury shortly thereafter restricted Melina’s training a great deal and she had to quit competing.

Melina graduated from the University of Regina in 2009 with a degree in Kinesiology majoring in Fitness and Lifestyle. She is a Level 1 Gymnastics Coach (artistic, foundations and trampoline), Certified 201 Swimming Coach and enjoys taking a variety of workshops every year. Melina has been coaching with the Marlins since the Fall of 2004.

Melina is happily married to Shawn and has 3 daughters, Elliana and Amalie & Annamae.
