Regina Marlins Swim Club Competitive Groups

White

White is our first competitive group. Swimmers moving up from our Mini Marlins program enter the White group and range in age from 7 - 12. This group practices 3 days per week for a total of 4 hours each week. Our White Group sets goals, continues with stroke improvement and is introduced to competition with in-town meets and a few out of town meets throughout the year.

Blue

Blue is a competitive group with swimmers swimming up to 6 hours per week. The swimmers range in age from 9-13. We focus on improving technique and work toward introducing racing strategies and more speed and pace work. Swimmers in the blue group set goals to achieve Sask 'A' standards or higher for the appropriate age categories.

Red

Red is a competitive swim group, with swimmers training up to 8 hours per week. The Red group ranges in age from 13 - 15. Most of the swimmers in the Red group will attend more out-of-town meets, as well as in-town meets throughout the year. The Red group does goal setting for stroke correction and competition time achievements. Swimmers in the Red group must hold Sask 'A' standards and work towards 'AA' standards for the 12-14 year old age categories.

Senior

The senior group is our highest competitive group. Swimmers in this group train approximately 13.5 hours per week. The senior group ranges in age from 14-21. The swimmers in this group attend practice and meets regularly. They compete at a minimum of the provincial AA level for the 13-14 age groups.

Training Guidelines

The coaching staff require all swimmers to bring a filled water bottle to every practice. Swimmers are not allowed to train without a water bottle. It is good to be a few minutes early for practice. If the coaches see a pattern of lateness developing, they will follow-up with the parents in order to find a positive solution.

Swimmers are always encouraged to complete all drills. However, if a swimmer is not feeling well or is experiencing "hurt pain", then he/she should sit out until she/he is feeling better.

Equipment

Swimmers require a swimsuit, goggles, Marlins t-shirt and swim cap to compete in meets.

Swimmers are encouraged to have one bathing suit for training and one for competing. It is a good idea for the swimmer to always rinse their bathing suit out with cold water after each practice. This will help the suit last longer.

Swimmers are encouraged to wear a swim cap. One Marlins cap will be provided with registration. For meets, the swimmer must wear the Regina Marlins cap. Swimmers must wear a club t-shirt at competitions.

Coaches may request swimmers to use training fins, paddles and pull-buoys. Check with your coach regarding the equipment you should purchase for your swimmer.
