2024 Age Group Zone Team Selection Process/Eligibility
 
Team Size
  • Each Local Swimming Committee (LSC) that fields a team and competes at the Western Zone Age Group Championship is limited to a roster of 80 total athletes.

Selection Criteria

  • To be eligible for consideration for Team Colorado, swimmers must meet ALL criteria below:
    • Athletes must be a current registered member of Colorado Swimming
    • Athletes must be no older than 14 years of age on the first day of competition, August 7, 2024
    • Athletes must achieve qualifying times between August 8, 2023 and July 1, 2024.  Please note: CSI LC State Championships will NOT fall under this deadline and times from those meets will NOT be considered for team qualification.
      • ​Times achieved after the selection deadline, but before the team entry deadline may still be used for entering events
  • Athlete applications must be submitted on or before 11:59pm July 1, 2024. Applications submitted after July 1, 2024 will NOT be considered.

Selection Process

  • Team Colorado athletes will be selected from the pool of applicants that have applied on or before July 1, 2024 ONLY.
  • Athletes will be selected using the tiered system (detailed on the right side of this page), selected in order of “Priority Level,” and in the following order:
  1. By selecting the top 8 athletes per gender, per age group for a total of 48 athletes, THEN
  2. By Selecting the remaining 32 athletes, regardless of gender or age group until the team cap of 80 athletes has been reached

Note on Qualifying Times

  • Qualifying times from multiple courses (LCM, SCM, SCY) can only be counted towards an event 1 time.  Example: if an athlete has both the LCM and SCY qualifying time standard for the 100 Breaststroke, that counts as one qualified event/standard.

Application Forms

  • Coach Application Form (we will post as soon as we receive from Colorado Swimming)
    • ​All coaches wishing to participate as Team Colorado in a Colorado Swimming sponsored event such as the All Stars Championships, Western Zone Championships or Catch the Spirit Camp must maintain current USA Swimming Coaching credentials and submit an application.  Additionally, coaches are chosen based on past experience with Team Colorado; one must first participate in Catch the Spirit Camp, then able to apply for the All Star Championship travel trip, then able to apply for the Western Zone Championship travel trip due to the job responsibilities and requirements of each trip.  Nevertheless, quality coaches who are enthusiastic about kids and swimming are always welcome to apply!
  • ​Chaperone Application Form (we will post as soon as we receive from Colorado Swimming)
    • Chaperones for Team Colorado are parents with swimmer(s) attending the Zones meet who have expressed interest in chaperoning the trip by submitting an application.  Two female and two males parents are chosen, preferably with past experience on a team trip or a Colorado Swimming sponsored travel trip in a chaperone capacity.  Those individuals accepted are sponsored by Colorado Swimming and expected to travel, stay at the hotel with the team, in addition to participate in all team meals and transportation.
      ALL Chaperones MUST be USA Swimming registered which includes a background check and safe sport (APT) done through USA Swimming.
