WATER BABIES 10:1 Ratio

No floatation devices such as a belt or vest will be used or permitted. 
Your swimmer(s) will not need an evaluation to sign up for this class.
Swim Diapers are required.

This class is a fun introduction to the water to gain comfortability and confidence while enhancing the bond between parent and child. Our program is designed for swimmers ranging from 6 months to 3 years of age. Parents will be in the water with their swimmers. In this class, both parent and child will learn about basic water safety, enjoy interactive activities learned through song and play, have exposure to light submersion, and gain comfortability along with confidence in and around the water. 

It is common for a swimmer to participate in a level for more than one session! Our program does not have many levels and our goal is to get the swimming. Each swimmer is different and will achieve his or her goals at their own pace.


LEVEL 1   3:1 Ratio     30 Min

No floatation devices such as a belt or vest will be used or permitted. 
Your swimmer(s) must be potty trained in order to take this class.
Your swimmer(s) will not need an evaluation to sign up for this class.

Designed for the beginner swimmer to become more comfortable and confident in the water without assistance. Our focus is on learning basic water safety and proper breath control, kicking, paddling, and body position all in a social setting. 

Your swimmer(s) will gain control over and enhance their motor skills. They will become more independent as they gain confidence with their new found abilities, and ultimately develop a lifelong love of the water.

Skills:

  • Represents - patiently awaits turn, treats his/her teammates, instructor, lifeguard and the facility with respect & follows pool rules
  • Proper Water Safety - enters/exits water safely, understands safe place and priority of getting onto back
  • Blows bubbles though nose with face in the water for 5 seconds
  • Comfortable submerging while blowing bubbles through the nose for 5 seconds
  • Proper straight leg kicking for 10 seconds
  • Short streamline glides with kick independently for 8 feet
  • Kicks and paddles with barbell independently for 1/2 pool length
  • Floats independently on back 5 seconds
  • Superman/girl float with bubbles 5 seconds
  • Superman/girl float (3 seconds) to back float (3 seconds) with minimal assistance
  • Treading - balances and moves on noodle while using arms and legs independently
  • Monkey walk 10ft & climbs out safely
  • Jumps feet 1st and gets to safe place with assistance

It is common for a swimmer to participate in a level for more than one session! Our program does not have many levels and our goal is to get them swimming. Each swimmer is different and will achieve his or her goals at their own pace. 
 


LEVEL 2     3:1 Ratio     30 Min

Your swimmer(s) will need an evaluation to sign up for this class.

In Level 2, swimmers have achieved comfortability in the water, and the focus is on the fundamentals of backstroke, freestyle, body rotation, siting dives, treading water, and retrieving objects from the bottom of the pool.

Level 2 is a big step in instilling confidence and building strength in our swimmers.

Prerequisites - Level 1 skills

Skills:

  • Represents - patiently awaits turn, treats his/her teammates, instructor, lifeguard and the facility with respect & follows pool rules
  • Proper Water Safety - enters/exits water safely, understands safe place and priority of getting onto back
  • 5 bobs, 3 seconds of bubbles in each bob, minimal assistance
  • Rolls superman/girl float (3 seconds to back float (3 seconds) independently)
  • Retrieves object from the shallow end of the pool with minimal assistance
  • Independent backstroke 1/2 length
  • Independent freestyle (no breathing) 5 yards - proper bubbles, kicks, arms, and head position
  • Treading independently for 15 seconds
  • Jumps feet 1st, treads 5 secs and gets to safe place independently on back
  • Sitting dives under noddle

LEVEL 3     3:1 Ratio; 4:1 Ratio 7 yrs and older     30 Min

Your swimmer(s) will need an evaluation to sign up for this class.

In Level 3 we will build on the skills our swimmers have mastered in Level 2. Our main focus will be refining Freestyle with rotary breathing, refining backstroke, endurance, treading water, and kneeling dives.  

Skills:

  • Represents - patiently awaits turn, treats his/her teammates, instructor, lifeguard and the facility with respect & follows pool rules
  • Proper Water Safety - enters/exits water safely, understands safe place and priority of getting onto back
  • 5 bobs independently, 3 seconds of bubbles in each bob
  • Rolls superman/girl float (3 seconds) to back float (3 seconds) while kicking for 1/2 length
  • Retrieves object from shallow end independently
  • Independent backstroke 1 pool length
  • Independent freestyle 1/2 length with rotary breathing (no "pop-up" breathing)
  • Jumps feet 1st, treads for 30 seconds and gets to safe place independently
  • Kneeling dives under noodle

LEVEL 4     4:1 Ratio     30 Min

Your swimmer(s) will need an evaluation to sign up for this class.

In Level 4, we will be refining freestyle and backstroke, building strength by improving endurance and treading longer, and learning standing dives, while being introduced to the fundamentals of breaststroke and vertical kicking. Level 4 is a challenge for many swimmers as they improve endurance while starting to learn breasstroke

Prerequisites - Level 3 skills

Skills:

  • Represents - patiently awaits turn, treats his/her teammates, instructor, lifeguard and the facility with respect & follows pool rules
  • Proper Water Safety - enters/exits water safely, understands safe place and priority of getting onto back
  • Bobs while moving to the wall, 3 seconds of bubbles each bob
  • Streamline position & Circle swimming
  • Proper backstroke 1 1/2 lengths
  • Proper freestyle 1 length
  • 1/2 length basic breaststroke
  • Proper worm fly kick 1/2 length
  • Jumps feet 1st off block treads 1 minute and gets to the wall independently
  • Vertical kick for 15 seconds with hands by the side
  • Standing dives under noodle

LEVEL 5     5:1 Ratio     30 Min
 

Your instructor will be teaching a majority of this class from the pool deck.
Your swimmer(s) will need an evaluation to sign up for this class.

In Level 5 our main focus is on endurance and technique. Swimmers will review and refine freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke and be introduced to the fundamentals of butterfly. They will also learn pool etiquette and team skills. If you are interested in the Junior Team, now is the time to check with your Coach to see if your swimmer is ready!

Prerequisites - Level 4 skills

Skills: 

  • Represents - treats his/her teammates, instructor, and the facility with respect
  • Proper Water Saftey - enters/exits water safely and follows pool rules
  • Proper backstroke 2 lengths
  • Proper freestyle 2 lengths
  • Proper breaststroke 1 length
  • Basic butterfly 1/2 length
  • Jump feet 1st off block tread 2 minutes and get to the wall 
  • Vertical kick for 30 seconds with hands by side
  • Starting block dives
  • Team skills - circle swimming, ready position, and streamline

LEVEL 6     5:1 Ratio     45 Min
 

Your instructor will be teaching a majority of this class from the pool deck.
Your swimmer(s) will need an evaluation to sign up for this class.

In level 6 your swimmer(s) will become proficient in all four strokes. In a team-like environment, we will continue to build endurance while improving their technique. Swimmers will be introduced to the pace clock, flip & open turns the 100-yard Individual Medley, along with swimming terminology. This is the final step before becoming eligible to join SJAC's Swim Team!

Prerequisites - Level 5 skills

Skills: 

  • Represents - treats his/her teammates, instructor, and the facility with respect
  • Proper Water Saftey - enters/exits water safely and follows pool rules
  • Proper butterfly 1 length
  • 2 X 100 freestyle with 30 seconds rest in between 100's
  • Legal 100 IM
  • Legal open and flip turns
  • Legal finishes
  • Starting block dives with breakouts
  • Pace clock training

It is common for swimmers to participate in a level multiple times. Our program does not have many levels and our goal is to get them swimming. Each swimmer is different and will achieve his/her goals at their own pace. 


JUNIOR TEAM (Fins Required)      10:1 Ratio     60 Min/2 Days Per Week

 
Your instructor will be teaching a majority of this class from the pool deck.
Your swimmer(s) will need an evaluation to sign up for this class.

Our Junior Team is designed to focus on technique, endurance, team building, core strength, and fun.  The team is for ages 6-8 yrs. Exceptions are made at times for younger or slightly older swimmers.  There are no swim meets, but we allow swimmers to attend USA Swimming meets if the coaches and parents agree they are ready.  The Junior Team is a perfect pre-step to the SJAC Swim Team.

Prerequisites - 

Swimmers are required to have decent endurance, a strong freestyle, and backstroke, but may not be fully legal in breaststroke or butterfly or their starts and turns.

  • Proper Water Saftey - enters/exits water safely and follows pool rules
  • Proper freestyle and backstroke
  • Proper breaststroke and butterfly
  • Starting block dives

FIT-TECH (Fins Required)      15:1 Ratio     60 Min/3 Days Per Week

 
Your instructor will be teaching a majority of this class from the pool deck.
Your swimmer(s) will need an evaluation to sign up for this class.

Fit-Tech is designed for swimmers age 11-14 who want to improve their technique and fitness but are not looking for competition. Ideally, we would like swimmers to be legal in all strokes, but if they’re not, we will determine if they are ready for the evaluation.

Prerequisites - 4 legal strokes

Skills:

  • Proper freestyle and backstroke
  • Proper breaststroke and butterfly
  • Starting block dives

ACCELERATED LESSONS   • SUMMER ONLY•

Complete an 8-week session in TWO weeks with our accelerated program! Accelerated lessons will be offered for Levels 1-6

They will NOT be offered for our Water Babies class

The pricing will be the same as our 8-Week Session and swimmers will still receive 8 lessons. Makeup Lessons will still be offered with our accelerated lessons.
