Head Age Group Coach

Kansas City Swim Academy (St. Joseph, MO)

Kansas City Swim Academy is looking for an energetic and positive age group coach for our St. Joseph, MO location. We are a year-round, competitive swim team with swimmers aged 5-18. This position is responsible for assisting the Head Coach with conducting practices, motivating athletes, and instructing athletes in strategies and techniques. This position will be the primary coach for the Advanced Age Group program (swimmers aged approximately 11-13 with competitive swimming experience) and fill in for the Age Group program as needed.  

The ideal candidate for this position will have a swimming background and be familiar with the sport of competitive swimming. Previous coaching experience is preferred but not required. 

This position is part-time and scheduling is very flexible. General expectation is four week nights from 5:30-7:00pm. Attendance at meets is sometimes requested but very flexible. Pay is commensurate with experience but starts at $17.25 an hour. 

This position is expected to complete and maintain USA Swimming Coaching Certification, including a background check and CPR certification.

Coves Swim Team Summer Swim Head Coach Job Position

 

Terms:    Northland Swim Conference Summer Swim Season (May-July 2025)

 

Hours:  Practices are Monday-Thursday morning, 7:15-11:15am

              Fun Friday with swim meet awards, 9:00am-11:00am

              Evening practices, Monday-Wednesday, 5:30-7:15pm

6 Regular Season Northland Swim Conference Meets (approx 3:30pm-10pm)      Northland Swim Conference, July 20-22nd

 

Requirements: Competitive swimming background, USA Swimming certification, strong communication and leadership skills, and a positive attitude.

 

About Us: The Coves Swim Team is a family-oriented, competitive summer swim team. We are strong in team spirit and inclusive of athletes with different aptitudes for the sport. The Coves Crocs are a neighborhood team where everyone gets to “play.”

 

Role: The head coach demonstrates an understanding of the sport rules and regulations, communicates effectively with assistant coaches, provides direction for structured practices, and leads a positive and encouraging team environment. The head coach will attend all practices and meets, file meet entries, lead Fun Friday awards, and run the end of year banquet. The head coach works under the direction of the Coves Swim Team board. While coaches have autonomy in the day-to-day running of practices and meets, they are ultimately accountable to the board for team operations, communication and conduct.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Foster a positive team environment by using appropriate language, encouraging all swimmers, promoting sportsmanship, and celebrating individual and team achievements.
  • Work as a team with the board by communicating areas of need and support (practical, leadership, communication, conflict, etc).
  • Communicate respectfully with all members of the team. This includes assistant coaches, teen helpers, swim parents, board and neighborhood HOA. The head coach is responsible for written communication from coaches to the team, including emails and text messages.
  • Delegate responsibilities to assistant coaches.
  • Nurture the potential of each swimmer and provide positive feedback to enhance each swimmer’s ability.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how children and teenagers learn. Use age-appropriate techniques to positively motivate swimmers in each age group.
  • Create and lead practices, including: drills, sets and stroke technique work.
  • Arrive on time to practice. Set up, run, and tear down practices. Be prepared for in-water demonstrations.
  • Attend morning practices and develop a schedule for evening practices to be divided among all coaches.
  • Direct teenage helpers as they volunteer. Give them clear direction and feedback so they can grow in their coaching ability.
  • Adhere to USA swimming pool safety rules and procedures. Actively monitor swimmers during practice/meets and respond to emergencies.
  • File meet entries and supervise athletes during competition. Attend regular season meets and Northland Conference Prelims and Finals.
  • Show team spirit by cheering during meets and participating in the meet theme. Determine Fun Friday awards with the help of assistant coaches.
  • Demonstrate sportsmanlike conduct toward other teams and officials.
  • Attend the end of season swim banquet and post-conference celebration with swimmers and families.

The assistant coach works at the direction of the head coach and the Coves Swim Team board. Coaches have autonomy in the running of practices and meets and are accountable to the board for team operations, communication and conduct.

The Topeka Swim Association (TSA) is seeking a part-time assistant swim coach to join our staff. TSA is a USA Swimming team with age groups ranging from 6 to 18 years old and ability ranging from beginners to National meet qualifiers. With 6 training groups, TSA is seeking to hire for swim groups between 4 and 7 pm with a minimum of 10 hrs a week guaranteed.

Requirements

  • Available weekday afternoons between 4 and 7 pm
  • Experience in competitive swimming, competitive stroke technique knowledge is key.
  • Able to coach athletes ages 6 through 14
  • Create dynamic and fun practices that teach the fundamentals of each stroke.
  • Willingness to learn and be part of building a positive team culture.

Compensation

This is a part time, hourly position. Pay begins at $20/hour. Additional opportunities and hours within the club are available (i.e. coaching weekends, teaching lessons, and camps).
