Reporting
USA Swimming and Missouri Valley Swimming put the health, safety, and wellbeing of its swimmers first. To that end, it is extremely important that Safe Sport violations be reported immediately.
If you see something, say something! The biggest mistake we can make about reporting is to not report on the assumption that someone else will. Choosing not to report could allow for serious abuse to continue happening.
General Guidelines about Reporting:
Serious violations of Safe Sport should be reported immediately to the US Center for Safe Sport, USA Swimming, and Wichita Swim Club leadership (a board member, coach, or an official). Rest assured that the entity that receives a report (US Center for Safe Sport, USA Swimming, the Central Zone, Missouri Valley Swimming, and Wichita Swim Club) will thoroughly and promptly investigate the report and respond appropriately with action or response proportional to the specific concern/violation.
The following are considered serious Safe Sport violations and should be reported to using the appropriate links.
- Sexual miscounduct, sexual harassment, and Sexually Explicit/Inappropriate communication through social media

- Criminal charges, use/sale/possession of illegal drugs, physical abuse, inappropriate touching, lap sitting, coaches sharing hotel rooms with athletes, rubdowns or massages performed by coaches, or pictures/videos taken in locker rooms or changing areas.

- Fraud, deception, recruiting

Club-Level Safe Sport Concerns include, but are not limited to, peer-to-peer bullying, adult to athlete bullying, parent issues, and violations of team rules and team codes of conduct.
These concerns should be reported to anyone in MVS leadership (a board member, coach, or an official). Simply speak to them one-on-one, give them a phone call, or email them. You can also contact WSC and Missouri Valley Swimming Safe Sport Chair Jae Davis at [email protected]. All Safe Sport concerns require action at the Club level, but the club-level Safe Sport concerns also need club-level education and intervention to ensure a culture of safety for the Club in its entirety. Wichita Swim Club has action steps in place to deal promptly and thoroughly with club-level Safe Sport issues.
MANDATORY REPORTING RULE
Pursuant to federal law, all adults authorized to interact with minor or amateur athletes who learn of facts that give reason to suspect that a child has suffered an incident of child abuse, including sexual abuse, shall make a report of the suspected abuse to law enforcement and/or your state’s designated agency within 24 hours.
ARTICLE 306
SEXUAL MISCONDUCT REPORTING REQUIREMENTS
.1 It is every member’s responsibility to promptly report any incident regarding sexual misconduct by a member as described in Article 304.3.8 to USA Swimming’s Director of Safe Sport. Reporting must occur when an individual has firsthand knowledge of misconduct or where specific and credible information has been received from a victim or knowledgeable third party. Various state laws may also require reporting to law enforcement or to a designated child protection agency.
.2 No member shall retaliate against any individual who has made a good faith report under 306.1.
.3 False reporting of sexual misconduct made in bad faith is prohibited.
.4 Neither civil nor criminal statutes of limitation apply to reports of cases of sexual abuse.”
