TYDE ACADEMY
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Prep Academy swimmers are required to demonstrate the ability to confidently swim for 25-50 yards without stopping:

Freestyle with strong arm pull and rotary breathing (breathing to the side).

Backstroke (with body in a horizontal position parallel to the bottom of the pool).

They are expected to have a teachable understanding of Breaststroke and Butterfly strokes.

Swimmers must be able to swim the length of the pool, with regular breaks, for the full practice time (45 minutes).
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS: Participation in 2 practices/week recommended.
REQUIRED MEMBERSHIPS: None
FOCUS MEET: Meet or clinic held at the end of eight-week session.
Currently, we offer the following Prep Academy programs:
Mini Prep: Designed for swimmers ages 8 and younger
Junior Prep: Designed for swimmers ages 9-11
Senior Prep: Designed for swimmers in grades 4-8
High School Prep: Designed for swimmers in grades 9-12 getting ready for HS swim team. Offered first semester.
Junior and Senior Prep may be combined at some practice sites based on number of registrants.

Semester 1 Locations and Times:
Billing for TYDE Prep Academy is on a monthly basis and swimmers will be billed through April 2024 unless a deactivation form is submitted. Families must use the Online TYDE Deactivation Form if they need to stop at any time before the end of April. If you are interested in the second semester please register closer to that specific start date. Monthly billing will conclude after Semester 2 on April 30th.
The dates/times for our late spring and summer mini-sessions will be announced later.
Registration will open in the spring for these one-time fee programs.

EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL TYDE SWIMMERS
PRACTICE EQUIPMENT
- White TYDE Swim cap, goggles, water bottle, and required equipment as designated for the group/level (see Required Equipment for Groups). Speedo swim suits are preferred. Speedo tie-back suits are acceptable.
(No Jolyn tie-back or two-piece suits). Only modest cut Jolyn suits are acceptable. - Swimmer is responsible for bringing ALL equipment to practice every day (unless otherwise instructed).
- Put your name on all equipment (including team apparel and suits).
- At the end of practice, swimmers are responsible for picking up all equipment, trash, water bottles, etc.
PRACTICE HABITS
- Respect your coaches, teammates, the YMCA and TYDE at all times
- Listen and look at your coaches when they are speaking to you.
- Follow directions. Raise your hand to ask questions if you don’t understand instructions.
- Learn to read the pace clock.
- Work together as a team. Be proud to be a TYDE swimmer.
- Be prepared with all equipment at every practice
- Focus on swimming RIGHT (good, correct technique) before swimming FAST.
- Come to practice with a positive attitude and ready to work hard.
- Clean up after every practice. Leave the pool cleaner than when you arrived.
SWIM MEETS
- TYDE is a competitive swim team, therefore Prep Academy swimmers are expected to attend all meets in which they are eligible to compete.
- Swimmers/Caregivers are expected to review the TYDE meet schedule linked on the website under the MEETS/EVENTS tab and mark their calendars to save the date for meets they will attend.
- Swimmers/Caregivers are responsible for declaring their intentions for TYDE swim meets on the TYDE website when meet signups are posted. Coaches will pick events and challenge swimmers to become well-rounded athletes by swimming as many different events as possible.
- All entries will be posted on the TYDE team site for review prior to the start of the meet. Meet details and instructions will be shared a day or two before each meet. Results will be posted on the team site after meets.
- White TYDE team caps MUST be worn at Prep Academy swim meets. Jolyn and tie-back suits are not acceptable for competition.
- It is the Swimmer’s responsibility to meet with coaches before and after races for instructions and feedback.
- Being a good teammate and a good sport is expected at swim meets. This includes cheering and supporting teammates and winning and losing with dignity.
