Summer 2024 SEASON
RipTYDE is a summer swim team sponsored by TYDE and the Kernersville YMCA. The team welcomes swimmers in Kernersville and the surrounding area as well as members of TYDE looking for an opportunity to continue short course competition through the summer. RipTYDE is open to youth ages 5-18.
Started in 2011 as a partnership between the Kernersville Family YMCA and Sedge Garden Swim Club, the team participates in the Tri-County League. Kernersville RipTYDE teaches swimmers a life-long love for the sport and how to excel in and out of the water. Swim team is a great way to meet other kids at the pool, stay active over the summer, and enjoy some friendly competition.
2024 Season Dates: May 20 – July 13

PROGRAM STAFF/CONTACT INFORMATION
Head Coach: Sandy Thomerson ([email protected])
It is our expectation that swimmers coming to RipTYDE have completed the equivalent of YMCA Swim Lesson level 4 or 5 and have the willingness to confidently swim:
Freestyle with strong arm pull and rotary breathing (breathing to the side).
Backstroke (with the body in a horizontal position parallel to the bottom of the pool).
Swimmers must also have the ability to swim, with regular breaks, for the full practice time.
Ideal, but not required, is a teachable understanding of Breaststroke and Butterfly.
These expectations are designed to allow the individual swimmer to have a positive experience in a group swim environment. To maintain safety protocols, we will limit the number of swimmers per lane.
There is no practice attendance requirement (although practice does make permanent!) or meet attendance expectation.*
*Swimmers must participate in at least one regular season meet (does not include City Meet) in order to swim in the Tri-County League Championship Meet. Scheduled for July 13th, 2024.
Swim meet signups are being done on the Swimmingly site this year.
We can only enter swimmers into meets after they are registered on our roster in Swimmingly. Please refer to the Swimmingly Sign Up Instructions link above for instructions to register with Swimmingly
