Abby Benkert attended the Eastern Zone Select Camp held at Penn State in State College, Pennsylvania. 28 Swimmers are selected from the Eastern Zone based on high performance and versatility. Those with the top 7 highest IMX scores in the zone are invited to attend, and Benkert's IMX score ranked 2nd in the Eastern Zone. The camp was 1 week long and hosted a number of the most competitive swimmers in the country. Abby represented Shawmut and New England Swimming well. Congratulations Abby!

Seven Shawmut swimmers qualified for the USA Swimming Open Water National Championship, held on Sunday June 12th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Qualifiers were Abby Benkert, Kayla Lilly, Michael McGean, Megan Pierce, Richie Smith, and Elizabeth Thayer. McGean, Pierce and Smith traveled to Florida with Coach Matt for the event and represented Shawmut well. Go Distance swimmers!

The Shawmut 13-14 Medley Relay team of Molly Pierce, Carly Adams, Alex Brindisi and Abby Benkert set 2 New England Records! On March 6th, the girls placed 1st in the 400 Medley Relay at the NE Age Group Championships with a time of 4:02.58, the fastest in New England History. Three weeks later at Sectionals in Buffalo, the group teamed up again and broke the New England Resident Record in the 200 Medley Relay (1:51.64). Way to go!

The New England 12 & Under Championships hosts the most competitive teams and competitive swimmers ages 12 & Under in New England. Shawmut placed 1st with a total of 1,884 points, beating the 2nd place team by 155 points. Shawmut finished day 2 in 1st place, with a 95 point lead. Shawmut swimmers posted tons of best times and team records during Day 2 of the 12 & Under NE Championships. Individual record breaker Andrea Wei set new team records in the 200 free (2:15.72) and 100 fly (1:05.49). In usual Shawmut fashion, SAC Swimmers rocked the relays. The Shawmut 9-10 girls 200 Medley Relay (Slowe, Colon, Wei, McCurdy) took 1st place and posted a new team record of 2:12.57. In the same event, the 9-10 boys relay team...

Off to a great start - 100% best times in the first session! Shawmut dominated in the distance freestyle events and in the 11-12 400 freestyle relays. Our 11-12 squad in the 1000 free represented well with aggressive racing and huge improvements - congrats to Elsie Slowe, Marin Lang, Emma Benkert, Christian Schoen, Ben Hartman and Evan Smith. Shawn Nee broke the 13-14 boys New England Record in the 100 yard Backstroke with a time of 52.28. The previous record was 52.75. Shawn currently ranks 8th in the country in the 100 backstroke in his age group. Congratulations Shawn!

81 Shawmut swimmers have qualified for championships this season! 32 Individual qualifiers for 12 & Under Championships and 49 individual qualifiers for 13 & Over New England Championships. Shawmut will send one of the largest groups in New England to both championship meets. Check out the workout section and the meet schedule for further information.

Distance freestylers Elizabeth Thayer and Michael McGean each posted impressive swims on Saturday February 12th in the 1650 freestyle. Thayer dropped 15 seconds and posted a time of 17:41.20, qualifying for Sectionals. McGean dropped 25 seconds and posted a time of 16:55.61, qualifying for the USA Swimming Open Water National Championship. Way to go Elizabeth and Michael!

Andrea Wei set the team record in the 9-10 girls 200 freestyle, posting a time of 2:16.10. The previous record, 2:17.21, was held by Marin Lang, and was set in February 2009. Shawn Nee set a new 13-14 boys Shawmut record in the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 4:53.30. The previous record was 4:54.92, and was set by Kevin Yamada in 2003. Congratulations to Andrea & Shawn!
