With just a few events to go on Monday night of New England Open, it appeared as though Shawmut would place 4th. Meg Hutchinson placed 2nd in the 200 backstroke. We had a strong showing in the men's 200 backstroke: Alex Moothart (7th) Kevin Yamada (9th), Teddy Hutchinson (14th), and Alec Gazda (22nd). Shawmut traveled to the Jenny Thompson Pool in Dover, NH for 14 & Under Championships. The outdoor 4 day meet was especially tough this year due to difficult weather conditions. This year's championship meet format was particularly nice because it included more age groups than ever before. Shawmut swimmers of every age worked together to keep each other positive, tough, and ready to perform. And it worked! Our exceptional team unity and focus led to lots of best times. Our entire team attended the MIT Specialty meet and everyone swam great. Over the course of the weekend, our group swam to a total of 561 personal best times! Ten Shawmut swimmers traveled to Orlando, Florida to compete at Junior Nationals. Over 200 teams from around the country attended the meet. It was a very fast meet and the Shawmut swimmers represented our program well! The group who attended includes: Lauryn Brown, Gabe Davis, Clare Foster, Meg Hutchinson,Ray McGorry, Emily Metta, Sammy Neumann, Roy Sung, Eddie Timmerman, and Katy Zingale. Shawmut 13 & Overs traveled to MIT and swam fast over a long weekend at Age Group Championships. Three more Shawmut swimmers qualified for Junior Nationals: Sammy Neumann (200 fly), Emily Metta (100 breaststroke), and Lauryn Brown (50 free). Way to go! Thirty-one Shawmut swimmers competed in Vermont, 2/19-2/22, at the New England 12 & Under Championships. Over 75 teams attended the meet and Shawmut placed 3rd with 1,444 points. Over the course of the weekend, 14 team records were broken! At the Senior Circuit Meet, held at Boston University, the Shawmut Senior Team swam fast and saw huge improvements during every session. Shawmut had four first-time qualifiers for Junior Nationals: Gabe Davis (100 fly, 200 fly), Ray McGorry (50 free, 100 fly, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke), Roy Sung (400 IM, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke), and Katy Zingale (100 fly)!! Our squad stayed positive and tough throughout a long weekend at MIT. The meet hosted a number of teams from outside of New England Swimming, including teams from Connecticut, New York, and North Carolina.
