Frequently Asked Questions

Where do we practice?
RRST practices at Corn Hill’s Adams Street Recreation Center during the academic year and at Genesee Valley Park during the summer.

When is practice?
Practice times vary depending on what group you are in. In general, practices take place Monday-Friday from 6PM-8PM at Adams Street during the Fall, Winter, and Spring. Show up during these times and you can talk to the coach and find out what is going on.

What are the practice groups?
RRST is divided into five groups: Age Group Levels 1-4 and the Senior Team. This is done so that children will practice with other swimmers of similar ability, as well as to provide an incentive for improvement. The coaching staff is solely responsible for determining a swimmers practice group.

Where do you compete?
We are a member of the Genesee Valley Swim League, which consists of thirteen Monroe County teams. Local meets are at one of these teams’ pools. Our more experienced swimmers compete in Niagara District meets, which draw competitors from all of Western New York, and these meets often take place in Rochester, Syracuse, or Buffalo. If you make certain time standards, you may qualify for Regional or National Meets. Your success depends largely on how hard you are willing to work!

How competitive is it?
Your experience with RRST can be as competitive as you want it to be. We have practice groups for all ability levels from beginner to advanced, and TEACH FIRST. Our meets range from small local meets with modest competition to large district and regional meets with strong competition. Swimmers are only expected to participate in local Junior and Senior meets.

How much does it cost?
Normal dues, which includes USA Swimming membership, are about $516 a year for city residents and about $691 a year for non-city. We are one of the most inexpensive teams in the Greater Rochester Area. In addition, there are discounts for multiple children and some need-based scholarships available. We have a two-week free trial for you to check out the team and decide if RRST is right for you.

How do I sign up?
Information is available at the pool during practice hours and coaches are available for questions during that time. You can also visit the Contact Us page for information on how to get in touch with the team via email. You will need to fill out this season’s registration/health forms. If you are seeking reduced fees, you can apply for the USA Swimming Athlete Outreach program.
