Scratch Procedure

If a swimmer cannot attend a meet they are entered into, they MUST Scratch- let us know they will not swim.

Please use the link above to send a Scratch email if you cannot attend a meet anytime after the sign-out deadline passes but before the meet.  Scratch emails are not replied to.

Remember that you are responsible for all meet fees regardless of whether your swimmer swims or not in the meet after the entry deadline. 

On the day of a meet, you must TEXT Coach BG to scratch before warm-up. (908) 655-7253.

Include: 

  • Parent's name
  • Swimmer's name
  • Swimmer's age
  • Name of the meet you are scratching out of
  • Which day of the meet OR which event/s you are scratching out of

Signing out of meets and scratching are two different things.
 
Signing out is done before a team’s entry is submitted to a meet. This can be done at any time before the signout deadline. The deadline date and time are emailed to all families as a courtesy so they have a last chance to remove their swimmer from an entry. Signed-out swimmers are not charged meet fees.
 
A scratch is done after the entry is submitted. It does NOT remove a swimmer from an entry, but it informs a team that a swimmer will not be attending. A host team needs this information so there are no gaps during the meet, or heats with no swimmers on the blocks. It keeps the meet running smoothly and the timeline accurate. Scratched swimmers are charged meet fees.
