Rio Rancho Practice Groups & Schedule
The MAKO Aquatic Club offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels.
Train with MAKO
It is our goal to offer age-specific training for all MAKO athletes, with practices geared toward challenging each swimmer and helping them develop to the best of THEIR abilities.
The senior practice schedule listed below represents our general practice times. Exact times may vary depending on where we are in the season.
MAKO Practice Schedule Overview
We offer different practice times and practice lengths based on the level of each group. As swimmers progress, their practice times and/or days will increase to match their development.
Holding Tank

Practice Times
- Mon & Wed: 7:00–7:30 pm
- Sat: 9:20–10:00 am
Our Rio Rancho location has almost every group at their roster limit. At MAKO, we don't turn swimmers away — we created the Holding Tank so your swimmer can be on the team, receive exceptional coaching, and continue to develop while waiting for a roster spot in their primary group.
Pups
Practice Times
- All Pups: Sat 9:20–10:00 am
- Pups B: Tue & Thu 6:00–6:45 pm
- Pups A: Tue & Thu 5:00–6:00 pm
Focus Areas
Stroke technique, aerobic development, kicking, and fun.
White
Practice Times
- Mon, Wed, Fri: 5:00–6:00 pm
- Tue & Thu: 6:30–7:30 pm
- Sat: 9:20–10:00 am
Focus Areas
Technique, aerobic development, coordination, athleticism, kicking, swim practice skills, fun, basic dryland movements, self-management, and independence.
Black
Practice Times
- Mon–Thu: 6:00–7:00 pm
- Fri: 5:00–6:30 pm
- Sat: 8:00–9:20 am
Focus Areas
Technique, aerobic endurance, all strokes & events, bodyweight dryland, fun, low–medium intensity intervals, kicking, competition skills, 200 IM, and 200/500 free.
Senior Prep
Practice Times
- Mon, Wed, Fri: 5:00–6:00 pm
Focus Areas
Technique, aerobic development, coordination, athleticism, kicking, swim practice skills, and fun.
Morning practices are offered during some parts of the season.
Senior B
Practice Times
- Mon–Tue & Thu: 5:00–6:00 pm
- Wed 5:00-7:00 pm
- Fri: 5:00–6:30 pm
- Sat: 8:00–10:00 am
Focus Areas
Technique, aerobic endurance, all strokes & events, bodyweight dryland, fun, high-intensity intervals, kicking, competition skills, 200 IM, 200/500 free, and speed development.
Morning practices are offered during some parts of the season.
Senior A
Practice Times
- Mon–Fri: 5:00–6:30 pm
- Sat: 8:00–10:00 am
Focus Areas
Technique, aerobic endurance, core body conditioning, med balls & free weights, training-based sets, anaerobic threshold & speed development, 400 IM/mid-distance, and fun.
Morning practices are offered during some parts of the season.
Performance
Practice Times
- Mon–Thu: 5:00–7:00 pm
- Fri: 5:00–6:30 pm
- Sat: 8:00–10:00 am
Focus Areas
Technique, aerobic endurance, core body conditioning, med balls & free weights, training-based sets, stroke-specific strength, anaerobic threshold & speed development, power swimming, 400 IM/mid-distance, and fun.
Morning practices are offered during some parts of the season.
Masters
Practice Times
- Mon, Wed, Fri: 6:00–7:00 am
Our members (ages 18 & up) enjoy the sport of swimming through workouts aimed at gaining physical fitness, relieving stress, improving technique, and improving competition times.
