What is SWAGR? — Southwest Age Group Regionals
A championship meet opportunity for MAKO age-group swimmers.
What is the SWAGR Meet?
The Southwest Age Group Regional Championships (SWAGR) is a regional championship meet for swimmers 14 years old and younger who have achieved specific qualifying time standards. It brings together top age-group swimmers from across the Southwest for four days of fast racing in a true championship environment.
SWAGR is one of the key “next level” meets on the age-group pathway, sitting above local invitationals and LSC championships and helping prepare athletes for zone, sectional, and national-level competition.
Why SWAGR is Valuable for MAKO Swimmers
- Championship Atmosphere: Finals sessions, team seating, and a big-meet feel help swimmers learn how to perform on a larger stage.
- Stronger Competition: Racing against top age-group swimmers pushes athletes to sharpen their race skills and chase new personal bests.
- Clear Seasonal Goal: Qualifying for SWAGR gives swimmers a concrete target to work toward in practice throughout the season.
- Confidence & Independence: Swimmers gain experience managing warm-ups, cool-downs, and finals routines—key steps toward senior-level success.
- Team Culture & Fun: Multi-day travel meets strengthen friendships, sportsmanship, and the “MAKO Family” feel we’re so proud of.
SWAGR is a time-standard meet. Swimmers must achieve qualifying times in their age group to enter. If you’re unsure whether your swimmer is close to a SWAGR cut, please reach out to their coach—we’re happy to help you map out goals and meet choices.
2026 SWAGR Time Standards (Sample Cuts)
The 2026 SWAGR standards include qualifying and bonus times in both short-course yards (SCY) and long-course meters (LCM) for each age group from 10&U through 14. Below are a few example qualifying times (SCY) from the official chart to give families a feel for the speed level.

How MAKO Uses SWAGR
For MAKO, SWAGR is a chance to celebrate the hard work our swimmers put in all season. Whether an athlete is racing at SWAGR this year or working toward it in future seasons, the meet gives a clear picture of the next step on the pathway from local meets to higher-level competition.
If you have questions about whether SWAGR is the right meet for your swimmer this season, please connect with your coach. We’re here to support each athlete’s journey, one race at a time.
