The MAKO Aquatic Club offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels.

Train with MAKO

It is our goal to offer age-specific training for all MAKO athletes, with practices geared toward challenging each swimmer and helping them develop to the best of THEIR abilities.

The senior practice schedule listed below represents our general practice times. Exact times may vary depending on where we are in the season.

MAKO Practice Schedule Overview

We offer different practice times and practice lengths based on the level of each group. As swimmers progress, their practice times and/or days will increase to match their development.

Pups

Practice Times

  • Sat 10:30–11:30 am @ UNM
  • Tue & Thu 4:00–5:00 pm
  • Pups A: Tue & Thu 5:00–6:00 pm

Focus Areas

Stroke technique, aerobic development, kicking, and fun.

White

Practice Times

  • Mon, Wed, Fri: 4:00–5:00 pm
  • Sat: 10:30–11:30 am @ UNM

Focus Areas

Technique, aerobic development, coordination, athleticism, kicking, swim practice skills, fun, basic dryland movements, self-management, and independence.

Black

Practice Times

  • Mon–Fri: 5:00–6:00 pm
  • Sat: 10:30–11:30 am @ UNM

Focus Areas

Technique, aerobic endurance, all strokes & events, bodyweight dryland, fun, low–medium intensity intervals, kicking, competition skills, 200 IM, and 200/500 free.

Senior B

Practice Times

  • Mon–Fri: 5:00–6:00 pm
  • Sat: 10:30–12:30 pm @ UNM

Focus Areas

Technique, aerobic endurance, all strokes & events, bodyweight dryland, fun, high-intensity intervals, kicking, competition skills, 200 IM, 200/500 free, and speed development.

Morning practices are offered during some parts of the season.

Senior A

Practice Times

  • Mon–Fri: 4:30–6:00 pm
  • Sat: 10:30–12:30 pm @ UNM

Focus Areas

Technique, aerobic endurance, core body conditioning, med balls & free weights, training-based sets, anaerobic threshold & speed development, 400 IM/mid-distance, and fun.

Morning practices are offered during some parts of the season.

Performance

Practice Times

  • Mon–Fri: 4:00–6:00 pm
  • Sat: 10:30–12:30 pm @ UNM

Focus Areas

Technique, aerobic endurance, core body conditioning, med balls & free weights, training-based sets, stroke-specific strength, anaerobic threshold & speed development, power swimming, 400 IM/mid-distance, and fun.

Morning practices are offered during some parts of the season.

Schedule Note: Practice times sometimes change depending on pool availability and the time of the season. Any changes will be communicated at practice and/or sent out via email and team messaging.
