Now is a great time to support our team and athletes by becoming a certified USA Swimming Official—and to take advantage of our Team Incentive Program! Full details about the program can be found here.
USA Swimming has established clear, consistent training and standards to ensure a fair, safe, and professional environment for competition. As an official, you will:
- Gain a strong, consistent knowledge of the rules
- Receive hands-on training to build confidence at all levels of competition
- Shadow experienced officials on deck as you progress through certification
- Have your certification automatically recognized across all LSCs
- Promote professionalism and teamwork both on and off the deck

Here’s a quick summary of the requirements:
- Become a non-athlete member of USA Swimming
- Complete a Level 2 Background Check (cost reimbursed by Ohio Swimming)
- Complete Athlete Protection Training
- Complete Concussion Protocol Training
- Take the Foundations of Officiating and Stroke & Turn Certification courses
- Complete on-deck shadowing sessions with a certified USA Swimming official
