PST This Week - 4/28/24

This Week:

Sun, 5/6:

Piedmont Play Like a Girl+ Event

This interactive event will give girls ages 2-18 the chance to learn about over 20 different sports. PST is looking for swimmers and parents to work at our booth answering questions, leading fun activities and getting the word out about the swim team. Olympic gold medalist Dana Vollmer will also be participating, so volunteers can also look forward to meeting Dana! The event will take place on May 5 from 10:00am-1:00pm at Witter Field in Piedmont. Volunteer sign-ups will open Monday morning at 9:00am. Questions? Please contact Kira Goodman

Next Week:

5/7:

PST Board Meeting via Google Meet. Open to all members.

5/11-12:

C/B/BB LCM Meet (host: SRVA). Meet has closed. 34 PST swimmers were able to register to compete.

Reno Gamble Age Group Meet:

In next week's newsletter we will be sharing information about lodging for our Reno meet. Based on last year's meet sheet, swimmers who are 13 yrs and older will need to be at the pool by 7:30am on Friday June 21st for warm ups. Swimmers who are 12 yrs and under will need to be at the pool by 1:00pm for warm ups. Although we are still waiting for confirmation of this year's meet, we wanted to share this information from last year as families plan their trip to Reno.

We are looking forward to a fun meet in Reno. More detail to follow next week.

Team Uniforms:

Any members who requested smaller sizes please arrange to pick up your items—Please get in touch with George at [email protected] to make the exchange. This mostly concerns the Blue and Bronze groups, but there were a few in Silver as well. New members to the Blue group in January also have a uniform waiting for them.

NEW Mizuno Team Store:

We have also set up a temporary store with discounted Mizuno suits, goggles, backpacks and more. This store will remain open until May 10, so get your order in quick. You can order and pay directly on the store here

SafeSport:

If your athlete turns 13 during the season, please have them complete the SafeSport training for swimmers 13 and older.

To complete the training online via USAswimming.org:

After logging into your USA Swimming Account, click on “Education” in the top right

For athletes: click on the “Safe Sport” button at the top and choose the appropriate course “Safe Sport for Youth Athletes (13-17)” or “Safe Sport Training for Adult Athletes” for swimmers 18 and older

PST is committed to being a Safe Sport friendly team. To be part of the team, each family (one guardian and all 13 and older swimmers) must complete their Safe Sport training requirements  each season. This also helps PST maintain our Safe Sport designation as a team. This training will help you and your swimmer understand the importance of a safe and healthy environment and what to look out for during practices and meets.

Thank you for being part of PST’s shared commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.

Important Dates, Cancellations and Practice Updates:

Tip of the Week:

Swimming is fun, but training is HARD work. What often keeps our athletes training is the friendships they build on the team. Encourage your swimmer to expand their friendships by talking to teammates before and after practice with whom they don’t normally engage. This both builds stronger group cohesion as well as a broader friendship group so that there is always someone at practice who’s a friend. For younger athletes, when you pick up your swimmer, instead of asking, “How was practice today?” try asking, “Who new did you talk to today at practice?” And, parents, try the same for yourself at meets. It sure does make spending your weekends at meets more fun when you’re looking forward to seeing your swim-parent friends!
