Laura Rose – Age Group Coach

I started swimming at age four with the Campbell River Salmon Kings and now have nearly 25 years of experience in the sport. My favorite events are distance freestyle and butterfly, but I especially enjoy social kicking and chatting with teammates during practice.
Outside the pool, I’m a biochemist and biomedical engineer, and I currently swim with Terrapin Masters at the University of Maryland. I began coaching with Machine Aquatics in 2023 and am thrilled to be returning to work with the Gears swimmers at Fairland this season!

I was born and currently live in College Park, Maryland. My competitive swimming journey began in 2013 on a small summer team, and I joined Machine Aquatics in 2018—and never looked back.
As a swimmer, I became lifeguard certified, worked at two different pools, and offered swim lessons at my local community pool. In the summer of 2023, my mentor Dan Haines invited me to join the Machine coaching staff. I’m incredibly grateful for that opportunity, as I truly love working with young, aspiring swimmers.
I believe there’s always something new to learn and always room for improvement. I hope my time at Machine continues to grow my knowledge—not only in coaching, but in life. Outside of swimming, I enjoy baking pineapple upside-down cake and cookies, and I love roller skating!
