Dylan Cudahy – Site Director, Tysons One Life & Oakmont High Performance & Age Group Director
Email: [email protected]
I’m Dylan Cudahy, and I’ve been coaching with Machine Aquatics for the past three years—but my connection to this team goes way back. I swam with Machine for six years after starting with the Virginia Gators and still hold team records in the Long Course 400 IM and 1500 freestyle. Safe to say, swimming has been a big part of my life for a long time.
I believe in building swimmers up for long-term success by focusing on discipline, attention to detail, and loving the process. For me, it’s never just about the yards or the clock—it’s about the effort you bring and the intention behind what you do each day. That’s where real growth happens.
I graduated from the University of Virginia in 2021, where I studied Systems Engineering and Environmental Science. Even with that academic background, I probably spend more time thinking about swimming than I should—but I can’t help it. I’ve been coaching in some form since high school, and there’s nothing better than watching a swimmer’s hard work pay off. Helping athletes chase down their goals and build confidence is what keeps me coming back to the pool.

James Walsh – Senior Group & High School Prep Coach
Email: [email protected]
I have over two years of coaching experience with Machine Aquatics and the Burke Centre Stingers, along with more than a decade of experience as a swim instructor. My coaching philosophy emphasizes technique and tempo, focusing on helping athletes understand the “why” behind each drill and exercise—not just the “how.” I believe this approach not only improves performance but deepens each swimmer’s connection to the sport.
I hold dual Bachelor’s degrees in History and Film/Game Design from the University of Utah, and a Master’s degree in Digital Public History from George Mason University. My academic background gives me the tools to communicate complex concepts clearly and with purpose.
Outside of the pool, I enjoy hiking, swimming, exploring museums and theaters, and staying active through futsal and pickup games. I’m passionate about lifelong learning and building a positive, engaged community—both on deck and beyond.
Aidan Deege – Senior Coach
Email: [email protected]
Hi, I’m Coach Aidan, and I’m excited to be entering my second year with Machine Aquatics. I grew up swimming with Machine. I grew up in Herndon, Virginia, and it’s an honor to now be part of the coaching staff that helped shape my own swimming journey. I’ve always admired Machine’s dedication to technical development and the way our coaches support swimmers both in and out of the water.
I swam for four years at the University of Mary Washington on their NCAA Division III team and continued competing during graduate school while earning my MBA, which I completed in the spring of 2024.
As a coach, I’m passionate about helping swimmers set goals, work hard, and celebrate their progress. Whether it’s in the pool or beyond, I’m here to support every athlete’s journey. The expectation is simple—show up and drop time. Go Machine!
Jack Gibson – Age Group Coach, Audrey Moore
Email: [email protected]
Hi, I’m Jack Gibson, this is my first year as a full time coach for Machine. I had a very rewarding journey in the sport as a swimmer, I started swimming at four years old in the NVSL for Old Keene Mill, eventually started swimming club for Machine and swam high school for Lake Braddock.
I was able to continue my career on through college at the University of Delaware, where I finished my career in the schools top 10 all time in the 400 IM, 200 Breast and 100 Breast and earning a degree in History.
While in school at UD, I was head coach of the Lane Lighting, a summer team in Wilmington, for three summers. This past year I served as Head Coach for the South Run Seahawks and Saint Stephens-Saint Agnes Middle School Team.
I am extremely excited to be back at Machine now as a coach. Machine brought me so many great memories and experiences as an athlete and was fundamental in my success as a swimmer at the next level. I can’t wait to help pass down the knowledge and experience I have gained in my career to the next generation of Machine athletes.
