Meet Day Volunteers

This set of volunteers is needed for each home meet.  These volunteer opportunities will be posted on TeamUnify for sign up. Questions regarding meet day volunteering can be directed to the boosters.

  • Head Timer
    • Description:
      • One person for each meet. This person will time each race in case of any lane timer malfunction.
    • Assignment:
      • Volunteer will start two watches at the beginning of each race. They will observe lane timers and provide assistance or answer questions, as needed.  They will also confirm times with lane timers and assist officials and scoring table when needed.
    • Timeline:
      • Day of the meet.  Will need to be to the school at least 15-20 minutes before the start of the meet.  Approximately a 2 to 3 hour commitment.

 

  • Lane Timers
    • Description: 
      • Six volunteers are needed for each meet. These volunteers will be on the swim deck behind the blocks.  Each one is assigned to a specific lane and will time the swimmer in that lane. 
    • Assignment:
      • Sit at the assigned lane and time the swimmer in that lane. At the finish of the race, timers use their stopwatch to record the swimmer’s time in case of an error with the touch pads.  If there is a stopwatch malfunction, you will raise your hand to signal the team timer.
    • Timeline:
      • Day of the meet. Will need to be to the school at least 15-20 minutes before the start of the meet. Approximately a 2 to 3 hour commitment.

 

  • Computer Table Volunteer (Swim)
    • Description:
      • One volunteer per home meet is needed to run the swim computer.  This person will work with the other computer table volunteers.  Ideally multiple people will train on the computer and work together to ensure coverage for all season meets.
    • Assignment:
      • Will train on the computer and work with the touch pad volunteer. Will enter swimming lineups for each race and make adjustments, if necessary. If there is a malfunction with the touch pads, the volunteer will adjust the swim times, per the timing judge’s request.   
    • Timeline: 
      • Will need to be there for the entire meet, approximately 3-4 hours.  There are four home meets this season.  Some additional training time may be necessary.

 

  • Touch Pad Volunteer
    • Description:
      • One volunteer needed per meet. Volunteer will be on the swim deck at the swim table and verify that the timing touch pads count the swimmer’s laps.  They will collaborate with other computer table volunteers. Ideally multiple people will train on the computer and work together to ensure coverage for all season meets.
    • Assignment:
      • Volunteer will set up a timing pad in each lane prior to the meet.  They will then sit on the swim deck at the swim table ensuring the touch pads are counting the swimmer’s laps. Any adjustments that are needed will be coordinated with the computer volunteer.
    • Timeline: 
      • Will need to be there prior to the meet for set up and then, for the duration of the meet, approximately 3-4 hours.  There are four home meets this season.  Some additional training time may be necessary.

 

  • Diving Scores Volunteer
    • Description: 
      • One or two volunteers needed to record diving scores from the judges. Enter the score on the score sheets and in the dive computer. Ideally multiple people will train on the dive scores and work together to ensure coverage for all season meets.
    • Assignment:
      • This person records the diving scores from the judges, enters them onto the score sheets so that they then can be entered into the computer. 
    • Timeline: 
      • Will need to be there for the diving portion of the meet, approximately 2 hours.  There are four home meets this season.  Some additional training time may be necessary.

 

  • Announcers
    • Description: 
      • Two people per meet--one person for the swimming portion of the meet and one person for the diving portion of the meet. These volunteers emcee the event. 
    • Assignment:
      • The swimming announcer calls each race and announces the swimmers in that heat.  The diving announcer calls each diver and announces each dive.  There is a base “script” for swimming and diving and the volunteer can tailor to their own way if the required information is included.
    • Timeline: 
      • Will need to be there for the entire meet, approximately 3-4 hours.  There are four home meets this season.  Some additional training time may be necessary.

 

  • Concessions
    • Description: 
      • Will need 4-6 volunteers per meet.  Volunteers will work in shifts to set up and break down the concessions table, sell the items, handle money/change and interact with spectators.  Volunteers will be able to rotate so as not to miss their athlete’s events.   The booster will provide the snacks so everything should already be at the pool waiting.   
    • Assignment:
      • Run the concessions during the meet. Show up early for set up and stay late to help break down the concessions table. Take payments for concession sales.
    • Timeline: 
      • Total time commitment is 2 to 4 hours with 2-hour shifts.

 

  • Meet Photographer
    • Description:
      • One volunteer to take photos during the swim and dive portions of the meet.  For use on the team site and can be viewed by family not able to attend meets.
    • Assignment:
      • Take photos of the swimmers and divers interacting/bonding together, competing and at the beginning/end of the meet.
    • Timeline: 
      • Around 3 to 4 hours per meet, with four home meets this season.
