Meet 1 Recap!

Susan Markham

Good afternoon Firefish,

In a meet with a last-minute lightning delay and no relays at the end, the Firefish pulled off a HUGE win against CCV, 1,434 - 1,091! We look to improve our record to 2-0 as we go against the Westwood Waves next Monday!

If you haven’t already, be sure to go in and commit/decline for the next meet. All declarations must be made by Wednesday night!

Quad Winner (the only one from either team!)

  • Juliet Markham

Triple Winners

  • Max Alger
  • Ivanna Butler
  • Matt Ciaverelli
  • Elizabeth Goins
  • Rebecca Goins
  • Thomas Gupton
  • Brady Hawke
  • James Shiveley
  • Emma Trivette
  • Harvey Trivette
  • Sam Trivette
  • James Wallin

Congratulations to all of our triple winners! In a meet with no relays, these swimmers had to work extra hard to get on this list. We had tons of double winners as well – too many to count! Well done everyone!

Best Times!

We had 80 swimmers who dropped time in 2 or more events, as well as 64 who swam an event for the first time! That is a lot of improvement! You can find a list of outstanding swimmers (those who achieved two or more best times) at the following link:

Outstanding Swimmers Meet 1

Along with these best times, we had some CRAZY time drops!

  • Dabney Bodt -  dropped a total of 18 seconds in her two events
  • Lizzy Broocker - dropped a total of 14 seconds in her three events, right after her softball practice!
  • Hudson Connelly - dropped 12 seconds in his 50 back
  • Max Dyshlevyi - dropped a combined 29 seconds in his 3 events… wow!
  • Adelina Fuemmeler - dropped a combined 18 seconds in her 3 events
  • Henley Hotchkiss - dropped a combined 27 seconds in her 3 events… all of which were 50’s!
  • Louise Irby - dropped a combined 20 seconds in her 2 events
  • The Kelly’s (Cabell and Colette) - dropped a total of 46 seconds in there (combined) 5 events! That’s a lot of time dropped for one family!
  • Auggie Kemp - dropped almost 17 seconds in his 25 free
  • Ailynn LeReche - dropped 55 seconds in her 3 events, including two 24 second drops in her 50 back and 100 IM… wow Ailynn!
  • Olivia LeReche - dropped exactly 13.13 seconds in her 50 free, and 13.13 seconds in her 50 back… she’s improved equally in those two strokes!
  • Anna Sessa - dropped a combined 31 seconds in her 3 events
  • Caroline Wallin - dropped a combined 23 seconds in her 3 events (all 25s!)
  • Ben Woody - dropped almost 16 seconds in his 25 free

Congratulations to everyone who dropped time! Keep working hard at practice… it’s paying off!

Special Shout-outs!

  • First off, I’d like to thank everyone who stayed during the delay… timers, volunteers, swimmers, coaches, and younger siblings who should have been in bed by then! It means a lot that you want to see each meet to the end.
  • Victoria Sessa and Lucy Mathe, as well as many others that I'm probably forgetting, who weren’t swimming in the meet, but came anyway to cheer on their siblings and teammates!
  • Hatcher Cox, whose goggles simply refused to stay on during his races, but he toughed out every single one!
  • Alice Hunter, who wasn’t feeling well throughout the entire meet, but pushed through each race and did a great job! Thanks for your toughness Alice!
  • Anna Reppard, who told me she was “going to drown” in her 50 butterfly, then proceeded to drop almost 3 seconds!
  • Everyone who swam a 100 IM… it isn’t easy to swim the 100 IM at the first meet, especially when we haven’t gotten much practice with butterfly or breaststroke yet. Thank you to everyone brave enough to do it!
  • All of the new members of the KRA swim team! You guys have added so much to the team already, and it’s showing in the results! Congrats on a great first meet!
  • All of the 9 year olds who swam 50s for the first time - it’s never easy to do something TWICE as hard as you did the year before, but all of these swimmers new to the 9-10 age group crushed their first meet doing 50s!

I’m so proud of all of our Firefish swimmers who participated in our first meet! Everyone at the meet was responsible for this victory, and I can’t wait to see how we do going forward. Even more exciting was the fantastic sportsmanship that I saw throughout the meet! Cheering on teammates, giving handshakes and high-fives to swimmers in the lanes next to you, and making the meet so much fun! Looking forward to seeing everyone at practice this week!

GO FIREFISH!
