SPIRIT OF MIDLAKES 2015

The League will again this season celebrate the Spirit of Midlakes...

Each week we are asking that you take time to evaluate your opposing team.  There are so many great things that happen at our meets and the League would like to commend those teams that go above and beyond to be a friendly competitor through the ALOHA SPIRIT of sportsmanship, team spirit and hospitality toward their opposing team.

Using the following benchmarks please rate your current weeks opponent:

  • Hospitality - Clean facilities, welcoming atmosphere, reserved parking and seating around the pool deck for visiting team, concessions, etc.
  • Team spirit - Wearing team suits & shirts, cheering for teammates in all age groups from pool deck, families stay throughout the meet to cheer on team, etc.
  • Sportsmanship - Respectful communication/gestures prior to events, congratulatory after races are finished, congratulatory conclusion to the end of the meet, etc.

Only one entry per week, per club, will be accepted.  Comments are welcomed and encouraged.  An 'EVENT' reminder with a survey will be sent to all parent reps each week.  Please designate one representative from your club to be responsible for noting these benchmarks during the meet and completing the survey.

The team from each Division with the most points at the end of the season will receive a 'SPIRIT OF MIDLAKES' plaque.

The theme for the 2015 Midlakes Swim League is "The Aloha Spirit of Midlakes".  Aloha is a Hawaiian symbol, whose meaning goes beyond any definition found in a dictionary.  In Hawaii, you hear aloha all the time and you are treated with aloha everywhere.  It is used in greetings and farewells, but the word means even more, it is a way of life, sometimes called "The Aloha Spirit".  The Spirit of Aloha is an important lesson that Hawaiians have taught to their children for generations.  It serves as a code of conduct to guide their interactions with others and with the world in which they live.

There is more meaning behind each letter of ALOHA:

Throughout this season and beyond, everyone involved in Midlakes is encouraged to spread aloha in the pool and on deck, at practice and at meets, in our conduct and in our interactions with others.  The Aloha Spirit is within each of us:  swimmers, coaches and families alike.
