Weather Policy

The safety of our swimmers is of vital importance to our team.

Inclement Weather at a Swim Meet

Our Team follows the Mile High Swim League (MHSL) policy regarding weather: "...the Meet Referee may call a meet in the event of cold or inclement weather (examples: air temperature at the pool is below 55 degrees, lightning or poor water conditions)."

If weather worsens or changes after a meet has started, the Meet Referee, Coaches and Parent Delegates will make the decision to cancel the meet based on the above criteria.  If the meet has completed thru Event 46, the meet is considered complete.  Incomplete meets could be rescheduled, but this may not be possible

Inclement Weather at Practice

Coaches and Board Members will follow the MHSL criteria, taking into account ambient temperature, lightening, active precipitation, water temperature and overall comfort for swimmers and coaches.

At any time a family may choose not to swim.

Lightning Criteria

It is the Meet Referee’s Responsibility to make the call for lightning and inform the Parent Delegates.

Policy 10.5.7 is as follows:
Lightning Safety Protocol In the event of lightning, the meet referee shall adhere to the 8/10/12 Mile Protocol:
● 12 miles: Monitor lightning activity and track its movement.
● 10 miles: Begin clearing the pool area.
● 8 miles: The pool and deck must be fully cleared; no individuals should remain in these areas.

The meet may resume 30 minutes after the last recorded lightning strike at a distance of 12 miles or more.

Notifications

Families will be notified by email or SMS notification if a practice or meet has been canceled due to inclement weather. The Board will also update the website on the main page and News section.

**Families who have added their phone numbers to the SMS section of their account will receive the text message. We recommend updating your SMS number on your team account.
