We will participate in 5 Dual Meets this summer season. Each dual meet will take place on a Saturday beginning between 7:00 - 8:00 am and usually finishing before 2:00 pm. Dual Meets are a fancy name for a meet between two summer swim teams. To sign your child up for events/races at a swim meet, follow these step by step instructions.
The age of a swimmer on June 1 determines the age group in which that swimmer will participate (6 & under, 8 & Under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18). Each swimmer may swim in three individual events and two relays in his or her age group. Each event has one or more heats of six-eight swimmers each (depending on the size of the pool). Swimmers are seeded into heats by their event times from previous meets, so the slowest swimmers swim against each other and fastest swimmers swim against each other). The Order of Events for ALL meets is the same. You can click here to see the order of events.
At SRA, we do not require our swimmers to wear a team swimsuit. We do recommend that boys wear Jammer style swim trunks and girls are required to wear one-piece swimsuits or tech suits (over age 10). Girls are not allowed to wear swimsuits that tie up the back. Swim shirts are allowed in extenuating circumstances, so please discuss with your coach if this is needed.
After the regular season, each division holds 2 Prelim Meets to determine which swimmers will move on to swim in the Championship meet the following Saturday. Any SRA swimmer can participate in the Championship Prelim Meets, which are timed trials. The top 16 fastest swimmers advance to the Saturday meet. The Championship meet is very exciting. The top sixteen swimmers from our divisions Prelims (in each of the 90 events), as well as alternates and relay swimmers, are all brought together for this team competition. All swimmers are encouraged to attend and cheer on their teammates.
The final meet of the season is All Stars, where all four divisions of the MHSL swimmers compete. To qualify, swimmers must beat a pre-set time in an event during a Dual Meet, Prelim or Championships. The All Star Time Qualifications can be found here at the MHSL website.
What do I bring to a Swim Meet?
LABEL EVERYTHING. It can get really crowded and items can get misplaced pretty easily. Plan on arriving 1-1&1/2 hours before meet start time for parking and seating purposes. Parking lots tend to get full quick and some venues seating can be very sparse. PLAN TO ARRIVE EARLY!
Here's a good checklist
- Refer to the Meet Info so you know when to arrive for your child's warm-ups. If you are planning on staying at the meet, outside of the fenced pool area, plan on arriving early enough to have time to park and get your child checked in for warm-ups.
- Heat Sheet or Meet Program - This will be emailed a day before the meet. Please print a copy and bring it with you so you can keep up with the flow of the meet and help your child stay on schedule for thier races. Click here for information on understanding the meet program.
- Swim Suit (best place to label it is inside on the lining of the suit with a sharpie)
- Swim Cap- Team cap or Plain colored cap (optional)
- Goggles (it's always good to have a spare pair - they can get lost or broken easily)
- Sunscreen
- Thin dark sharpie (to write swimmers events on their hands so they don't miss their races). You will use the meet program to write the Event, Heat, Lane & Race on your swimmer.

- 2 - 3 Towels
- Chair or blanket to sit on, for your swimmer inside and for yourself.
- Healthy snacks, water or sports drinks. We will have a very limited concession stand with some breakfast items available.
- Cash or change for the concessions
