Three Cayman swimmers will dare to be great in Doha, Qatar next month, as they represent their country at the 21st World Aquatics Championships (long course). A dramatic finish between Connor Macdonald and Will Sellars resulted in the two swimmers sharing gold at the CUC Sea Swim on Saturday, 13 Jan. The annual swim, which celebrated its 35th anniversary, hosted 105 participants in the 800 metre – the highest number since the 2015 event. Swimmers have secured some best times and B final placements in the Centro Acuático pool – getting things started for team Cayman at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, taking place from 21 Oct.-5 Nov. Cayman’s aquatics athletes finished their events in Chile on Wednesday, 25 Oct., but the 345 team still has competitors in athletics, sailing, and golf waiting in the wings to impress. Dominic Hilton, of Seven Mile Swimmers, took first place at the annual Foster’s Sea Swim, besting 113 other competitors. In the open water 800-metre event, held along Seven Mile Beach on Saturday, 14 Oct., Hilton clocked 9:19.33. A team of seven Cayman Islands’ athletes across four different sports is preparing to impress at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. The event, scheduled to take place from 21 Oct.-5 Nov., will feature local competitors in aquatics, athletics, sailing and golf. James Allison took silver in the 200-metre freestyle, in a history-making swim that earned Cayman its first-ever medal at the Youth Commonwealth Games.
