A team of 90 athletes and officials across nine sports are set to represent the Cayman Islands at the 2023 Island Games. Taking place 8-14 July in Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands between England and France, this 19th edition of the Games was postponed from 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Historically, the Games has drawn competitors from members of the International Island Games Association (IIGA) around the world every other year since 1985. The Cayman Islands hauled in 53 medals to finish second overall on the high point board at the 36th annual CARIFTA Swimming Championships in Curaçao, the best score Cayman ever recorded. Dominic Hilton outpaced a field of 85 swimmers on Monday, 10 April., along Caracas Bay in Curaçao, to take the CARIFTA Open Water 5K race. Dramatically adding to Cayman’s record-setting CARIFTA championships, swimmer Sierrah Broadbelt has won more individual gold medals than every other athlete at this year’s competition. She notched a staggering eight gold medals in Curaçao, also making Broadbelt the top female gold-medal winner in history for the Cayman Islands, surpassing Kaitlyn Elphinstone’s seven gold medals collected at the 2000 event. While Tennessee sophomore Jordan Crooks was delivering history-making performances at the SEC Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, his younger sister, Olympian Jillian Crooks, returned home to participate in the Cayman Islands National Swimming Championships at the Camana Bay Aquatic Centre.
