Gold's Aquatics Club is committed to providing a healthy and positive environment free from abuse for all its members. USA Swimming’s Safe Sport program, a comprehensive abuse prevention program, consists of a multi-layered approach to keep kids safe, including: required policies and best practice guidelines; mandatory screening, including criminal background checks and employment screening; training and education; monitoring, supervision and mandatory reporting.  These measures are informed by experts in the field of child safety and are among the strongest safeguards found in youth-serving organizations.

FREE ONLINE SAFE SPORT FOR ATHLETES

This course is designed for athletes 12 and older and will cover: (1) The Basics of Safe Sport, (2) Understanding the three types of boundaries, and (3) What to do if you or someone you know is being harmed.

Parents and coaches can use the facilitation guide in the course to open up a conversation about Safe Sport and healthy boundaries.

SAFE SPORT ATHLETE PROTECTION EDUCATION

USA Swimming is committed to raising awareness about the prevention of abuse in sports.  We believe that the first step to creating an empowered team environment is education.  This training will help you: (1) Understand the scope and effects of abuse in sports, (2) Recognize the signs of grooming behavior and boundary violations, (3) Understand how to establish boundaries and protect against false allegations, and (4) Know how to react and report suspected abuse.

FREE TRAINING FOR PARENTS

Parents are a critical component to our overall goal of protecting children from sexual abuse. The comprehensive online programming includes information about how offenders operate; how to recognize and respond to boundary violations, myths and facts about child sexual abuse, and USA Swimming’s Athlete Protection Policies and Procedures.

THE SAFE SPORT ACTIVITY BOOK

Inspired by "Highlights" magazine, the Safe Sport activity book is designed for kids ages 6-11, but there's something for everyone!

The activity book has coloring pages, a word search, connect-the-dots, matching games, and more. Parents, coaches, and swimmers will be able to use the books to start a conversation about positive team culture, maintaining an environment of support and safety, and all the reasons to love the sport of swimming!

ATHLETE PROTECTION TRAINING

USA Swimming requires all athletes 18 years and older to complete the ATHLETE PROTECTION TRAINING course as part of MAAP (Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy). 

The Athlete Protection Training is provided through the U.S. Center for SafeSport. The required course is found on your USA Swimming Account under the Education tab and must be renewed annually. 

All new and existing adult members of USA Swimming, including adult athletes, must satisfactorily complete Athlete Protection Training as required by the U.S. Center for SafeSport.
