The YMCA of Greater Des Moines offers competitive swim team programming for youth through masters. The Marlins have a place for you no matter your ability or goals! (A YMCA membership is required for all DSMY Marlin rosters.)

Age Group Swimming 

The DSMY Marlins age group rosters practice at three sites: Ankeny/Wellmark (at Wellmark), Walnut Creek, and Waukee. Each practice site hosts their own tryout and evaluation sessions. 

Interested age-group swimmers new to the DSMY Marlins, including siblings of current team members, need to attend one of the tryout sessions, a Marlin Prep clinic, or schedule a private evaluation with the practice site head coach. Pricing and schedules are located on each youth swim team Practice Site page on our website. 

Travel Team at the Wellmark YMCA

Masters Swimming

Registration is open year-round to Masters swimmers with two payment options. Please see the Sites and Groups tab or contact Coach James "Butch" Lawson for more information.

Age-Group Tryouts (Evaluations)

​​​​During the evaluation process, your child will be expected to swim freestyle and backstroke. They will also be asked to attempt breaststroke and butterfly if they know those strokes. Swimmers will also be offered the chance to attempt diving into the pool

• Open to swimmers 4-21 years old
• Bring your own swimsuit, swim cap, swim goggles, and a water bottle.
• After the in-water skill evaluation, the coach will discuss next steps with you and your swimmer.  Outcomes may include training group placement and/or continuing with swim lessons.

Financial Assistance

The YMCA offers financial assistance to families making under $50,000/year. Please contact your branch Welcome Center for more information. 

To have your financial assistance applied to your swim team season fees, please contact the Swim Team Admin.
