PEAQ Coaching Staff

We are fortunate at PEAQ to have a very qualified staff.  The names and contacts of our coaches are listed below.  Coaches who are denoted as a “Lead Coach” are considered to be the parent contact for that group.  Leads are also primarily responsible for writing the workouts for their assigned group and in charge of training group moves.  Please note that “Assistant Coaches” can assist at any level and that any lead coach can also act as an assistant.

Dave Schraven Head Coach and USC Senior Lead Coach

Dave has been with PEAQ since 2015, and is one of the founding members of our club. He serves as the Head Coach and Lead Senior Group coach, but works with nearly every group throughout the year. Before PEAQ, Dave served as the Head Coach of Mount Lebanon Swim Club from 2008-2012 and then Upper St. Clair Swim Club & High School from 2012-2016. He was named the PIAA AAA Boys Coach of the Year in 2014 and was a USA Swimming National Team Coach from 2019-2021. His proudest swimming moment was when he was a member of the 2019 World Junior Championship and PEAQ’s Josh Matheny won the 200 Breaststroke.  

As a swimmer, Dave was an accomplished athlete at every level. He was an Olympic Trial qualifier, a 2-time Junior National Champion, a 6-time New York state champion, and a 2-time NCCA Team Champion while at Stanford.

Dave graduated from Kenmore East High School in Buffalo, NY, and holds a BA in International Relations from Stanford University. He has two children and two dogs with his wife, Kelly. When he isn’t on the pool deck, Dave enjoys spending time with his family and skiing in the winter months.  

Royce Tipper CM Head Site Coach, Senior Lead

Royce has been with PEAQ since May 2021. He began his coaching career teaching swimming at various levels and brought his expertise to PEAQ after previously working as an instructor. A graduate of Cornell High School, Royce was a two-time state qualifier and school record holder. He continued his education at Clarion University.

Royce's proudest coaching moments come from seeing swimmers grasp new skills in the water. Royce comes from a large family, being the third oldest of seven siblings. Outside of coaching, he enjoys hiking, camping, and spending time outdoors.

Atalie Abranovic Head Site Coach @ USC

Attie joined PEAQ in 2024 and serves as the full-time Head Site Coach at Upper St. Clair. She leads the USC Junior Group, assists with the Senior Group, and oversees the age group program at the site.

Before joining PEAQ, Attie was the Head Coach at the Richard G. Snyder YMCA, where she helped swimmers progress from beginner levels to District, State, Zone, Sectional, and National qualifiers. Most recently, she coached with the Fox Chapel Killer Whales, focusing on junior and age group swimmers. She has also been a regular member of the AMS Age Group Zones coaching staff and currently serves on the AMS Age Group Committee.

As a swimmer, Attie began competing at the age of six and swam for GPAC and Team Pittsburgh Aquatics. In high school, she excelled in the pool and was a state champion and All-American in the 200 Medley Relay. Attie continued her swimming career at the University of Maryland, where she specialized in breaststroke and was a member of the 2005 ACC Championship team. 

She graduated from Oakland Catholic High School and holds a Bachelor's Degree in American Studies from the University of Maryland. 

John Nemeth Admin/Assistant Coach

John has been with PEAQ since its inception in 2015, working primarily with the Senior group. He also serves as the club’s webmaster and co-meet director. Prior to PEAQ, John was the Head Coach of Chartiers Valley Swim Club from 2014-2015, overseeing its merger with Upper St. Clair Swim Club to form PEAQ. He started coaching summer leagues in high school and later served as Head Age Group Coach for the WTRC Sharks (2010-2014) before joining CVSC. John has also been the Head Coach of Centerville High School (2011-2013), Chartiers Valley High School (2015-2019), and Quaker Valley High School (2020-2023).

As a swimmer, John was a WPIAL Champion in the 100 Breaststroke in high school and an 8-time NCAA All-American at Denison University. He was part of the 2009 WPIAL Championship team and the 2014 NCAA Championship Runner-Up team.

John graduated from Central Catholic High School and holds a Bachelor's in Political Science from Denison University, a Master's in Health & Physical Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a Ph.D. in Kinesiology from Concordia University, St. Paul. John is a Physical Education teacher at Quaker Valley Middle School, and when not coaching or teaching, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Leah, their son, Charles, and their dog, Gus

Michael Densmore Senior Coach @ USC

Mike has been with PEAQ since 2018 and works primarily with the Senior Group. He also serves as one of the primary assistant coaches for Upper St. Clair High School. Mike has extensive coaching experience and has held a variety of different roles, including collegiate (University of Maryland: 1990-1991), high school (Bethel Park: 1991-1998, Upper St. Clair: 2018-Present), and club (Bethel Park Swim Club: 1991-1998). As a coach, he was a part of multiple WPIAL Championship teams (BP: 1992-1998, USC: 2021), as well as a PIAA team championship with Bethel Park in 1996.

A competitive swimmer, Mike was a 9-time high school All-American, a 6-time Junior National finalist, a 4-time WPIAL Champion, a PIAA Champion, and an ACC Conference Champion at Maryland. He was also part of the 1983-1986 WPIAL Championship teams at Bethel Park and the 1986 team that won the PIAA state title. His proudest swimming moment was winning the 1996 PIAA title as a coach or being crowned the ACC champion in the 100 Breaststroke as a swimmer.

Mike graduated from Bethel Park High School and holds a BA in Communication & Business from the University of Maryland. He works for PNC Bank as a Senior Vice President and has been married to his wife, Leslie, for 25 years, with their two children, two dogs, and two horses. Mike enjoys golfing, playing hockey, and skiing when he is not on the pool deck. 

Benon Brewer Lead AG1 & AG2 (All Sites)
Benon has been coaching with PEAQ since 2021, working primarily with Age Group 1 and 2. He also serves as an assistant coach with Canon-McMillan High School swim team. In high school, Benon was a member of the 2016-2017 WPIAL team, the 2017 PIAA State team, and an All-American as part of the 200 Free Relay. He continued his swimming career at Saint Vincent College, where he finished in the top 8 in the 1650-yard freestyle in the PAC all four years and served as a Bearcat team captain for two years.

Benon graduated from Peters Township High School and earned his degree in Early Childhood Education from Saint Vincent College. He is the oldest of five siblings and takes great pride in watching his team succeed and helping swimmers achieve their goals.

Megan Bilko Lead AG3 Coach @ USC

Megan joined PEAQ in 2015, bringing an outstanding background in competitive swimming and coaching. A graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, Megan competed in the PIAA State Championships in the 500 Freestyle. She continued her swimming career at Grove City College, where she became a 7-time NCAA All-American, set multiple PAC conference and school records, and competed in three NCAA Championships. In 2020, Megan founded Race Ready Swim School, where she coaches swimmers and triathletes in the Western Pennsylvania region.

Outside of coaching, Megan enjoys rock climbing, ultra-running, snowboarding, and spending time with her family. She currently lives in Mt. Lebanon with her cat, Honey Bunches.

Haley Scholer Assistant Coach (USC)/Wahoos Head Coach

Haley joined PEAQ in the Spring of 2025 and brings a decorated background in competitive swimming at both the high school and collegiate level.

In high school, Haley was a three-time PIAA State finalist and earned numerous All-District, All-State, and All-Conference honors. She went on to compete for Duquesne University, where she was a 10-time Atlantic 10 Conference medalist and earned back-to-back championship titles in the 200 Backstroke. Haley also impressively qualified for and competed at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 200 Backstroke.

Haley excelled in the classroom and earned numerous student-athlete distinctions from Duquesne University, where she will graduate in May 2025 with a degree in Marketing.

Julie Roncone Lead Junior/AG4 Coach @ CM

Julie has been coaching with PEAQ since 2020 and serves as the Lead AG4 coach at the CM site. She has coached in a variety of positions, including 14 seasons as a high school coach, 20 seasons at the middle school level, and 8 seasons as a club coach. As a swimmer, Julie was a WPIAL qualifier and team record holder in high school, as well as, a PSAC conference team member in college.

Julie graduated from Cornell High School and holds a B.A. in Elementary & Special Education and a M.Ed. in Technology from Clarion University. She has been an elementary school teacher for the last 120 years and likes to swim, run, and spend time with her family and when she isn’t coaching. Julie has been married to her husband, Marc, for 16 years and their daughter is a current member of PEAQ. 

Becky DiDaniels Lead Developmental Coach @ CM

Becky has been with PEAQ since 2017 when the club expanded to the Canon McMillan community. She is the Lead Junior coach at CM and also handles all scheduling and new swimmer evaluations for the site. Before joining PEAQ, Becky was a coach at the Upper Main Line YMCA and was also involved in various summer swim teams in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh area.

Becky graduated from Oakland Catholic High School and holds a BS in Material Science and Engineering from Drexel University. She was a four-year member of her high school team and also competed at Drexel for two years. Becky has been married to her husband, Mike, for 17 years and they have 3 children. When Becky isn’t coaching, she loves to craft, swim, and travel. 

Amy Quevedo Lead Developmental Coach @ USC

Amy joined PEAQ in 2019, bringing with her an impressive background in competitive swimming and coaching. A graduate of Webster High School in New York, Amy was a state champion and held high school and state records. She continued her swimming career at Denison University, where she became an 18-time All-American, set multiple team records, and was part of a national championship team. Amy later earned her Master’s degree and CAGS in School Psychology from Northeastern University.

While in graduate school, Amy coached at Northeastern University, led Nike Swim camps, and started masters teams in Boston. She also coached high-ranking age group teams in Texas before moving to Pittsburgh, where she coached for Peters Swim Club and Trinity High School.

Amy is married to her husband, John, and they have three children: Jackson, Jameson, and Jacob, along with their dog, Skipper. Outside of coaching, Amy enjoys watching her boys play hockey and baseball, reading, and spending time with friends and family. She also works as a school psychologist.

John Richards Assistant Coach (USC)

John brings extensive coaching experience to PEAQ, having coached various teams since 1978, including Bethel Park Recreation and Bethel Park High School. A standout swimmer at Bethel Park High School, John served as team captain and earned PA All-State honors. He continued his swimming career at Shippensburg University, where he was a three-time PSAC All-Conference swimmer. John holds a B.S. in Elementary and Special Education K-12 from Duquesne University and a Master's in Health Education from Salem University. 

John's proudest swimming moment was placing 3rd in the 1981 PSAC 100-Fly. Outside of coaching, John enjoys spending quality time with his wife, Vicky, and his children, Christopher, Michael, Caley, Danny, Johnny, and Amanda. He also works as an Autistic Support Teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools.

Janis Batanian Assistant Coach

We are excited to welcome Coach Janis back to PEAQ! She began swimming at the age of six in a local summer swim league and went on to compete at Indiana University–Bloomington, where she was a two-time state champion in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke (1975 and 1976). She was also recognized as the University of Evansville AAU Swimmer of the Year.

She has coached in Evansville, Indiana, during the summers, with PEAQ until 2016, and then with MLAC from 2016 to 2025. Her greatest passion is teaching adults to swim and helping them gain confidence in the water. Outside of coaching, Janis enjoys spending time with her two grandchildren.

Dina DeVincentis Assistant Coach (CM)

Dina has been with PEAQ since 2019, primarily coaching the Level 4 and Junior groups. A graduate of Peters Township High School, where she was a 4-year WPIAL and PIAA qualifier, All-American, and the only freshman to make her high school's state team. Dina continued her swimming journey at Kent State University, participating in OHIO Masters and later swimming with Allegheny Mountain Masters.

Outside of PEAQ, Dina works as an Analyst at Dick’s Sporting Goods and stays active in the swimming community by continuing to swim and run. She is deeply involved in the Greek community and enjoys attending local Greek dances and festivals. Dina lives in Canonsburg with her dog, Apollo, and loves spending time with her family and friends.

Lauren Connors Assistant Coach (USC)

Lauren has been with PEAQ since 2022, starting as a swimmer when the club first formed. She graduated from Upper St. Clair High School and went on to attend Saint Vincent College, where she was the Presidents' Athletic Conference MVP for Women’s Swimming. Lauren holds a degree in Early Childhood Education.

Lauren’s proudest moments as a coach come from watching her swimmers win their first races. Outside of coaching, she enjoys reading and online shopping. Lauren also teaches 3rd grade in the Canon-McMillan School District.

Jillian Breckenridge Assistant Coach (CM)

Jillian joined PEAQ as an assistant coach in 2019 and serves as the lead Developmental coach at the CM site. Before PEAQ, Jillian was the coach of her local summer team in New Jersey and held that position from her junior year in high school through college. In the pool, Jillian was a multi-year YMCA State Qualifier as an age group and high school swimmer. She was also a four-year member of the Varsity team at Grove City and qualified for her Conference Championship in each of those seasons.   

Jillian graduated from Dunellen High School in New Jersey and holds a B.S. in Exercise Science from Grove City College and an M.Ed. in Health & Physical Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. When not on the pool deck, Jillian teaches Health & Physical Education at Canon McMillan and enjoys seeing PEAQ swimmers around the halls!

Meghan Miller Assistant Coach (CM)

Meghan first joined PEAQ in 2024 and works with our AG1 group at the CM location. As a swimmer, she was a four-time Ohio state finalist for Canfield High School and went on to compete at the University of Notre Dame from 2003 to 2007, earning a varsity letter each year. She graduated with a degree in Psychology.

After college, Meghan earned a Master’s in Education from Duquesne University, where she also served as a graduate assistant coach for the Duquesne swim team. She brings a wealth of coaching experience to the pool deck, working with athletes from age group to collegiate swimming, and has coached teams in both Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Meghan lives in Canonsburg with her husband, Andy, and their two children, Andie and Jude.

Kelly Beck Assistant Coach (USC)

Kelly joined PEAQ in 2024 and works with the AG1 group at the USC location. As a swimmer, she was a three-time MVP and team captain for the North Allegheny swimming team, which won two WPIAL championships during her time there. She was an All-American and a multiple-time PIAA state finalist. Kelly went on to compete for the University of Notre Dame, where she was a Big East Championship semi-finalist in the 200 IM and 200 Fly, a varsity letter holder, and a Dean's Honor List recipient.

After graduating from Notre Dame, Kelly served as an assistant coach for the North Allegheny high school swim teams and coached Age Group swimmers at Allegheny North Swim Club and the Jewish Community Center. One of her favorite coaching moments was helping her youngest brother and the NA team win the PIAA championship in 2010.

Outside of swimming, Kelly is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh, where she specializes in designing mental health interventions for children and adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities. She leads the Schools Unified in Neurodiversity (SUN) Collaborative, which aims to make public schools more inclusive for children with disabilities. She is excited about PEAQ’s partnership with the Special Olympics and its impact on the Pittsburgh community.

Kelly has two children, Carter and Lyla, and two dogs with her husband, Dan Beck.

Lindsey Hanlon Assistant Coach (CM)

Lindsey joined PEAQ in 2024 and brings a wealth of swimming experience to the pool. She competed collegiately at both the University of Pittsburgh and the University of South Carolina, where she was a record holder in the 200 breaststroke at Pittsburgh and the 100 breaststroke at South Carolina.

Outside of swimming, Lindsey studied Retail Management and has worked in the field but found her passion in entrepreneurship and networking. She has authored a book, hosted a podcast, and enjoys making meaningful connections with others.

Lindsey and her husband, Mike, have been married since 2010 and have four children—Parker, Presley, Piper, and Penelope—as well as two dogs, Charlie and Sammie. Swimming holds a special place in her heart, giving her discipline, peace, and strength. She is excited to work with the amazing kids of PEAQ and looks forward to helping them achieve their goals.

Sarah McClintock Lead Developmental Coach USC, LTS Coord.

Sarah joined PEAQ in 2018 as the Swim Team Readiness Coordinator at the Upper St. Clair location. A lifelong recreational lap swimmer, Sarah became a certified lifeguard in 2009 to help others develop life-saving skills. She soon realized she could have an even greater impact by teaching people to swim, and she firmly believes everyone should learn—whether they're 2 or 72!

Sarah graduated from Upper St. Clair High School and holds a B.A. in Elementary Education from Ohio Wesleyan University. She spent 10 years as a kindergarten teacher in Chicago, Illinois, before moving back to her hometown.

In addition to teaching group and private swim lessons for PEAQ, Sarah also coaches the USC Developmental group. She loves seeing the excitement in her swimmers as they gain confidence in the water.

In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family—her husband, Dave, and their two children—walking her dogs and doing yard work.

Vernon Yenick Diving Coach (USC)
Vernon joined PEAQ in 2024 and brings a wealth of experience as a diving coach. He served as the owner and head coach of the Fox Chapel Dive Club from 2018-2024, where he developed athletes from beginner to elite levels. Prior to that, Vernon spent a decade with the Pitt Aquatic Club (2006-2016), assisting renowned coaches Julian and Dorothy Krug.

Vernon was the head diving coach at Fox Chapel High School from 2008-2024, where he coached multiple WPIAL and PIAA qualifiers, including several WPIAL champions and multiple Top 3 PIAA medalists. He also coached Quaker Valley High School from 2019-2024, where his divers consistently placed in the top 8 in both WPIAL and PIAA competitions all four years. Additionally, Vernon coached for Central Catholic and Oakland Catholic High Schools, guiding his divers to top WPIAL finishes.

As a diver, Vernon was a Junior Olympic qualifier in 1984 and 1985, and a WPIAL and PIAA silver medalist in 1985. At the University of Pittsburgh, he was a 4-time Big East finalist (1986-1989) and silver medalist on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards in 1989. Vernon graduated from Churchill High School and holds a B.A. in Communications from the University of Pittsburgh. He resides in Edgewood and enjoys hiking and spending time with family and friends.
