New swimmers and families interested in joining Scottsdale Aquatic Club are welcome to attend one of our summer/fall tryouts listed below.  Swimmers will be evaluated by members of the SAC coaching staff and placed in a practice group based on their age, skill, and endurance level. 

The tryout is open to swimmers ranging in age from 6 years to 18 years old.   Prior swimming experience is encouraged to ensure the swimmer is ready for a year round competitive environment.  Recommended experience includes, but isn't limited to, swim lessons, competitive rec team, or swim school.  Minimum requirements include the following

• Proper breathing patterns for freestyle and butterfly
• Knowledge of all 4 competitive strokes
• Ability to swim all 4 strokes legally for a minimum of 25 yards
• Ability to swim consistently in freestyle with breathing pattern for a minimum of 50 yards 
• Swimmers who are 11 and older will be required to show ability to swim short sets determined by the evaluating coach

Swimmers with previous club or high school swimming experience can contact the SAC office directly.  Please email Courtney Werner at [email protected] with your swimmer's name, age, name of their club/high school, and a list of their top events/times.   The division director will review the information and place the swimmer in a group without the need to attend a tryout.

NEW! - Spring 5-6 Program

Scottsdale Aquatic Club is providing a new opportunity for 5-6 year olds to dip their toes into the world of competitive swimming.

Our 7 week program will refine the 4 competitive strokes, introduce drills, and build endurance.  Our 10&U director, along with an assistant coach, will teach these young athletes as they prepare for recreational swimming over the summer.  

Swimmers interested in the program will need to tryout prior to joining.  Tryouts for this program will take place on Saturday, March 23rd at 9:30am at the Cactus pool.  Previous swim lesson experience is required. 

Limited spots are available to ensure a coach to swimmer ratio that is no greater than 1 t0 5.  

Practices will be held on Fridays from 4:00pm - 4:40pm at McDowell Mountain Ranch Aquatic Center starting on Friday, April 5th and continuing through Friday, May 17th.  The cost is $200 per swimmer.  There will be no refunds or make up dates offered.

Spring Tryout Dates

Additional dates will be offered starting throughout the fall portion of the season.  Dates may be limited due to the practice and meet schedules.  Some groups may have limited availability and coaches will communicate options to each family following the swimmer's evaluation.  Please revisit the website for additional dates and times.  New members are welcome to join the club throughout the season.
