Emily qualified for the B final in the 100 bk and started the evening well. Shaving another half second from her best time established in heats she raced to 3rd and 1:04.42. Up next Matt in the 200 Breast where after a valiant first 100 taking the race out he had to settle for 4th getting out touched on the last stroke. He managed a BT 2:26.75. Last up for Hyack was Lindsay Clarke with her 50 free B final. Lindsay had to settle for 7th in the race.
1500 free started the meet and Emily Gerson crushed her previous best by nearly a minute on the way to her first Senior National qualifying time. Emilys 17:27.65 gave her 6th overall. Session 5 was short and fast. After a solid preliminary session, there were 5 alternate swims and 6 final qualifying swims. At the end of finals were the distance events in which Sabrina and Dilip did an excellent job. Sabrina swam a blistering 12:05.60. Dilip earned a Silver medal for his 1500 Free going a 21:58. Day 2 was another excellent day for the Hyack swimmers. After prelims, Hyack had 6 swimmers make it to finals. Sabrina Porreca, Tom Sun, Dilip Rathinakumar, Jelena Mitrovic, Carrian Leung, and Jamie Engman all had individual events in finals. Out of 10 total swims, there were 9 best times. 5 medals were earned after exquisite individual efforts. First medal came when Tom swam a 1:17.61 in the 100 Back, earning him a Gold medal. Linda Liu, Sabrina Porreca, Jamie Engman, Danaka Brown, Carrian Leung, Jelena Mitrovic, Amanda Dhaliwal, Rebecca Siemens, Jonathan Zhang, Tom Sun, and Dilip Rathinakumar all qualified for AA’s and are attending this meet. Hyack swimmers Haydn Pak and Stefan Milosevic went down to Cerritos, California as part of Team BC competing at the Pacific Coast All-Star Meet. Haydn was 11th in the 50 Yard Free, 9th in the 50 Yard Back, 18th in the 100 Yard Back, 14th in the 50 Yard Breast, 13th in the 100 Yard Breast, and 12th in the 100 Yard IM. We had 12 brave racers on a rainy but ‘warm’ Jan 01 at Rocky Point Park for the Penguin Race. Milan Milosevic nosed out Matt Hua to take the first out of the water. Keeping with the trend from this meet Hyack's evening started with Emily Gerson who was well placed at 6th from her morning swim best time and national cut. Her morning 2:16.78 would have remain her best time as the finals race ended up about a second slower. The remaining team swim came from Matt Hua in the 50 breast who raced solidly to silver.
