Dear L&A OSC Families, As you may have known, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics have officially begun! Swimming had its first day yesterday Tokyo time (3:30 AM Vancouver Time). One unique thing about this Olympics is that Heats are in the evening Tokyo Time, and Finals are in the morning Tokyo Time. This is similar to the set up back in the Beijing 2008 Olympics. Lots of great swims over the course of the Swim BC Virtual Divisional and Provincial Championships! Here are some accomplishments of swimmers: 1. On the Summer of 2021, Swimming Canada launched a Jr Ranking Series. These are from male swimmers born 2003-2006 and female swimmers born 2004-2007.The swimmers that are Top 2 (all events except 100/200 Free) and Top 4 for 100 & 200 Freestyle for both SCM and LCM of the leaderboards after August 15, 2021 will be recognized and rewarded by Swimming Canada. The Langley Olympians Swim Club has won the Small Team Award and placed second overall in the Speedo Swimming Canada Race Again Challenge! Over the past five months Swimming Canada has launched and virtual swimming competition open to all Swimming Canada registered athletes. This virtual competition spanned across three stages where points are cumulatively added over the past five months. Dear LOSC Members and Families, We would like to inform everyone that we are planning to hold a Year End Awards Social & Brunch to be held at the Walnut Grove Lutheran Church on Saturday July 24th, from 9:45-11:15 AM. We are grateful to be able to hold this given the changes to the Provincial Health Orders yesterday. Two current swimmers and one alumna of the Langley Olympians Swim Club attempted to book their ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as they participated in the Canadian Swimming Olympic Trials that were held in Toronto, Ontario from June 19-23rd, 2021. The selection meet gathered over 185 swimmers from Canada’s West Coast to East Coast. Traditionally, Canada’s major international selection meet for swimming is held during April, but this was delayed due to COVID-19.
