About 100 MANTA competitive swimmers greeted the first day of summer with fun relays! Along with the spirited swimmers were alumni, alumna, moms and dads. Many thanks to all of them for their effort. Saturday morning, June 15, Academy swimmers were excited to meet Swim Olympian, Chantal VanLandeghem who spoke to parents and swimmers. Her topic was developing confidence and the audience was held in rapt attention. Chantal and friends, Lauren Teghtsoonian, Tia VanLandeghem, Liz Castonguay and Ella-Rayne Aguilar delighted the 40+ swimmers providing them with tips on dive starts, turns, finishes and freestyle stroke swimming. The swimmers then, ably, demonstrated their competitive skills to the many swim fans in attendance. The Manta 11-12 boys relay team broke the Provincial record in the 4x200 Free Relay. Nathan, Ahmed, Stephen, and Ben are a prime example of embracing the team and showing it consistently on a day to day basis. The Manta Swim Club had their sights set high, as they competed at the 2019 Golden Plains Invitation at the Winnipeg Pan Am Pool. Manta placed 1st overall in team scoring. Manta swimmers enjoyed the company of their teammates and took advantage of their relatively large number of athletes by creating a home-like atmosphere.
