The BC High School External Sports Credit program began in 1997. Swimmers can earn credits for Athlete 10 just by achieving a BC 15 & over AAA time. Last weekend, the Richmond Rapids travel to Victoria to compete in the Island Cup, a meet that regularly attracts fast mid-season swimming. This year was no different. A small but strong Rapids age group team was up against some of the best in the province, including a large and competitive team from Oregon and some local Olympians. This last weekend at UBC, the Richmond Rapids competed at the VPSC Decathalon. Though the 200 Freestyle was struck from the event list, the Rapids were able to compress their racing ferocity into only 9 events. "The main focus here was to race as hard as we could with the best skills we have," said Head Age Group Coach Dennis Silva. "We haven't been on a full schedule since we've been at Steveston. Air and water testing has been completed, and we are hoping to receive results back tomorrow. We started draining the competition pool early this morning. Draining to be complete overnight. The company that applied the new coating will be pressure washing and scrubbing the pool basin tomorrow, under the supervision of project manager.
