USA Swimming Board Approves New Official Certification Standards

James Platt

Effective February 1, 2024, the USA Swimming Board has enacted new officiating standards across all LSCs. You can view the new standards here.

These new standards in no way impact the technical rules set forth in the USA Swimming Rule Book but they do change how training, evaluation, and promotion of officials occur. These standards work to ensure that all officials throughout USA Swimming have a clear, consistent, and transparent process for certification and re-certification. Additionally, with all LSC’s having the same standards, certified officials now can work in any LSC and will receive credit in OTS for their participation.

Another change is that officiating certifications are now valid for 3 years. Current certification, as of February 1, 2024, will be grandfathered into these new standards without additional training.

We appreciate the commitment our Officials have to USA Swimming and Middle Atlantic Swimming
