Lakeview Aquatic Club at the Michigan Open!!

Kyle Lott

LAC Family,

Lakeview Aquatic Club traveled to the Michigan Open this weekend at Oakland University.  This was a very large and fast meet where we, once again, made strides on improving our swimmers!  Our senior group saw some Olympic hopefuls and we learned from swimming against the some of best in our area of the country.  Our Junior swimmers had a great time, as we saw them scoring in the top heats across many of their events (including record setting performances)!  Major Baumann, Reagan Magnus, Avery Russell, Christian Hancock, and Lavell Marshall represented LAC as Seniors, and Ava Siedelburg, Gio Trejo-Uribe, Noah Hess, and Jofrank Trejo-Uribe, swam as Juniors.  New club records were set by Gio and Ava in the 100 butterfly, Gio in the 200 IM, and Noah in the 50 backstroke!

When attending a meet like this, it is crucial that we take home things which will improve our LAC swimmers.

First - taking care of our bodies throughout the competition is extremely important.  Coaches and swimmers observed how important it was to warm-up before races, cool-down after races, hydrate, and snack on healthy foods throughout the weekend. These are things which you don't need to be an Olympian to do, but will separate you from local competition immediately!

Second, don't get caught up in the things which you cannot control!  We saw some great swims from some nationally ranked kids.  Sometimes when you participate in a competition like this, it is easy to forget the important things which make "us" swim fast. The things we work on in practice are (1) propulsion forward (or distance per stroke cycle), (2) Maintaining Technique throughout our swims, and (3) Stroke Tempo.  We have been working on the first two a bunch in practice!  Over the next few weeks we need to trust that our first two have been solidified and the tempo can be added without affecting the first two.  This was noticable this weekend and is a part of the process moving forward.  Tempo, Tempo, Tempo, will be a major focus with the LAC program and HS swimmers over the next few weeks, as we approach our championship meets!!!

I am very proud of our LAC team for attending this meet and giving their all at a high level competition.  It is almost impossible to learn what we did at our local meets.  Competing at a high level is crucial to the development of the program!

Great Job LAC!!
