Athlete Leadership Committee

  1. Athletes must enquire about wanting to be a part of the committee, and get an application from the coaching staff.

  2. Athletes must fill out the application form, explaining why they are interested and what they would bring to the committee which is unique and different.

  3. Coaches and the current athlete committee will select new members, based on these applications.

  4. Things which we will look at when selecting new members:

  1. Leadership Skills.  Do people follow you or do you follow others?  Can you tell a teammate when they are doing something wrong, which directly affects the “look” of the team?  Do you lead by example?

  2. Grades.  As a student-athlete, it is important that you create a balance in your life.  We are looking for kids who can compete/practice at a high level and maintain a high level in the classroom.

  3. Citizenship.  How do you treat others?  We are looking for kids who are respectful to teachers, coaches, parent volunteers, officials, and other kids within our program.

  4. Creativity.  We are looking for creative ideas!  Members of the leadership team need to be able to think in a unique manner.  As coaches, we want to make our program better than every other program.  Coaches have a good idea concerning making kids faster and what a program/practice should look like, but maybe not what makes the program enjoyable.  Student-athletes will ultimately make this happen if they put their minds to it!

  1. We will start with 2 high school boys, 2 high school girls, and 1 middle school boy and girl.  The committee will begin with these 6 individuals.  As the program grows, we will expand this group to double these numbers (12 total).

  2. The goal of this program is to have student athletes provide input on how we can make our program better as a whole.  Questions such as: How can we best advertise - how can we build our numbers? What do you love about practices and what do you despise? What team attire/equipment should we select as required and optional?  How goal setting can improve the team and what is the best way to promote these ideas?  Fundraising ideas?  Meets?

  3. Our athlete committee will hold quarterly annual meetings with coaches (4/year),

Discussing the above ideas and anything else which would grow the program.
