Swimmers Core Values

“Happiness begins where selfishness ends.”  John Wooden

WHOLE ATHLETES - Develop all competitive strokes and distances with the intention to become as well rounded an athlete as possible.  They are committed to long term goal creation and development, in order to self assess successes and struggles in an effort to continually grow.  The “whole athlete” is a strong practice and meet swimmer that is an example whom others on the club follow in order to achieve success.

“Discipline yourself and others won't need to.”  John Wooden

COMPETITION - The best competitors embrace competition and all of its outcomes.  Being an athlete that uses competition to challenge ones comfort zone and to embrace struggles as a method of growth is as important to success during competition as achieving personal best times.  Reflective and self reliant competitors are a must for athletic success and growth.

“Be at your best when your best is needed, enjoyment of a difficult challenge.”  John Wooden

COMMITMENT - Is reflected by embodying all of our core values while being able to prioritize ones time in a busy schedule.  Managing all other activities so they do not lessen the effort to achieve ones goals as a swimmer is the mark of a committed member of the club.  Regular attendance at practice and team meets is also the mark of a committed athlete that values competition as part of the process of growth.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, it is a habit.”  Aristotle

QUALITY - Is achieved by demonstrating daily practice and competition excellence in performance, self awareness and being coachable.  The best athletes listen well, then execute well and finally compete well due to focusing on the quality of their practice and competitive swimming.

“If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?”  John Wooden

BALANCE - Is being a well rounded member of the club that excels not only in the pool with Lakeview Aquatic Club but also as a member of their school and all other community activities they are a part of.  Excellence needs to be a culture in all areas of life and must be fostered beyond the pool and competitive swimming.

“Work, love and play are the great balance wheels of man’s being.”  Orison Swett Marden
