  • Junior Development

Overview:

  • Primarily students 12 yrs. & older, and/or who aren't ready for Pre-Senior or Senior commitment, and can handle Aerobic base intervals.
  • These swimmers are encouraged to make a commitment to the sport of swimming and to limit outside activities that would interfere with their training. Swimmers are guided through a periodization training system. Athletes in this group are skilled and experienced age group swimmers, ages 12 & up. Practices are more rigorous at this level and will emphasize building endurance and improving aerobic conditioning both in the pool and through resistance dryland training is offered every day to develop core strength, coordination, perception, reaction, flexibility, injury prevention. Stroke technique and race rehearsal prepare athletes for local, state, and regional competition.
  • The Junior Group is designed to give stroke instruction to swimmers who would like to stay in shape and/or acquire the skills for high school swimming competitions and/or future club swimming competitions. Some Juniorrs swimmers will join this group just because they love swimming and want to stay in shape.
  • To be considered for the next group, an athlete must demonstrate meeting or exceeding next group standards and expectations. Athletes who wish to do other activities, summer league or travel, this is the best group standards and expectations. Athletes who wish to do other activities, summer league or travel, this is the best group.

Focus:

  • The focus will be on mastery of strokes, starts, turns, and finishes. Meet participation is mandatory as is attendance at the highest-level meet for which a swimmer qualifies. Developing time management and building a strong character. Having Fun!

ATTENDANCE

  • 5 days a week

GOALS

  • Swimmers will begin establishing goals toward achievement of BB and A or higher time standards.. Meet participation is mandatory as is attendance at the highest level meet for which a swimmer qualifies, B meets and achieve TAG cuts. Maintaining a strong training work ethic and establish training goals. Instilling advanced stroke technique and racing skills. Developing time management and building a strong character. Having Fun!

Minimum Requirement:

  •  practices a week (out of 5 practices offered weekly). Highly recommended Saturday & 2x week, along with doing 3 practices a week if you have 3 or less HS practices. Out of season (ex. May and summer) 50% practice attendance is required.

Entrance Requirement:

  • A tryout with Head Coach is required for entrance into this group.

Daily Training: 

  • 4 days/week

Practice Location: 

  • CFB and North Lake

Attendance:

  • Strongly encouraged to attend 3 times per week

Entry to Junior Varsity

  • Some swimming experience on a team. Ability to swim all 4 competitive strokes. Ability to swim legal 100 individual medley, ability to swim 10 x 100 freestyle on interval
  • This group is ideal for busy teens who cannot maintain the rigorous practice schedule required for competitive senior swimming or swimmers that have not achieved the time standards necessary for the Marlins Senior program. Swimmers may attend meets if desired, but meet attendance is not mandatory.

Skills Coached:

  • Kicking for all strokes
  • Drills for all strokes with emphasis on precision while increasing speed
  • Distance per stroke will be emphasized for all strokes
  • Competitive turns will be used with all sets in practice
  • Swimming sets will be expanded while stroke integrity is maintained.

  • O2 cap

  • Competition swim suit – endurance fabric encouraged for practices
  • Athletic clothing/shoes for dry land
  • Kickboard
  • Long floating fins
  • Front swimmer’s snorkel
  • Swim strap

Quarterly promotion consideration

  • Swimmers with greater than 75% attendance and those meeting the entry requirements for Pre-Senior (7th and 8th only) may be considered for promotion three times annually.
  • All swimmers will promote to NEXT GROUP AFTER EVALUATION
