Downingtown West at Day #1 of the PIAA District 1 Championship Meet

Maria Martin
What an amazing first day for our Whippets at the District 1 Championship meet!
For the boys, junior Henry Dennin essentially matched his best time and had an amazing 200 free. He brought it on strong on his final 100 – it was great to watch! Sophomore Shane Martin dropped almost 2 seconds on the 200 IM and had a personal best time of 2:00.33. He had his best split ever on the fly leg and cruised through the back leg.

The girls 200 medley relay (sophomore Morgan Harlan, freshman Keira Carmella, sophomore Ellie McNamara, and senior Leah Lacovara) dropped .41 seconds to come in 11th place overall. There were many personal best splits by this fantastic four! Sophomore Ellie McNamara killed it in the 200 free by dropping almost 1 second to make it to the podium for an 8th place. Tenacious sophomore Morgan Harlan was not far behind by dropping over 1 second on the 200 free and achieving a 13th place finish overall. Freshman Keira Carmella made her debut at Districts with a 13th place finish on the 200 IM - an amazing swim. Senior Leah Lacovara did what she does best - sprinted her way to a speedy 12th place finish on the 50 free. Senior Ella Bice also competed in the 50 free and essentially matched her best time with a strong 26.05 time! Junior Abby Harlan dropped time on the 100 fly to achieve a personal best time of 1:00.15. Finally, our girls 200 free relay (junior Mary Kate Johnson, junior Abby Harlan, senior Caroline Cusack, and senior Ella Bice) finished strong with a time of 1:44.99.
We have many reason to be proud today…and more importantly, everyone had fun! Go Whippets!!! Looking forward to Day #2.
