DWest Shines at the Scott Elliott Ches-Mont Invitational Meet
DWest swimming had an impressive showing at the Scott Elliott Ches-Mont (“SECM”) Invitational meet yesterday. There were many new District cuts, numerous best times, and lots of smiles. Congratulations to everyone!
New District Cuts
DWest had some new District cuts yesterday. The girls team added 5 new times/events for swimmers who had already qualified for the District meet. The boys added 4 new cuts….and 3 new members to the boys District team – junior Sean Borkowski, junior Cole Cichewicz, and sophomore Austin Verlinghieri! Here are the new District cuts for the team:
- Morgan Harlan (junior) – 200 freestyle automatic time
- Abby Harlan (senior) – 200 IM consideration time
- Mary Kate Johnson (senior) – 50 freestyle automatic time (previously had a consideration time)
- Keira Carmella (sophomore) – 100 freestyle automatic time (previously had a consideration time)
- Girls 400 Freestyle Relay (automatic time; previously had a consideration time) – Keira Carmella, Abby Harlan, Mary Kate Johnson, and Ellie McNamara
- Boys 200 Medley Relay (consideration time) – Austin Verlinghieri, Shane Martin, Sean Borkowski, and Henry Dennin.
- Sean Borkowski (junior) – consideration time in the 100 butterfly
- Henry Dennin (senior) – automatic time in the 200 freestyle (previously had a consideration time)
- Boys 400 Freestyle Relay (consideration time) – Sean Borkowski, Cole Cichewicz, Shane Martin, and Henry Dennin
Girls
The 2024-2025 Ches-Mont Champs dominated the meet yesterday – in fact, 21 girls swam at the meet! Their time drops and noteworthy performances are set forth below:
- Addie Campbell (sophomore) – .22 second drop in the 50 freestyle and 1.71 second drop in the 100 freestyle
- Charlotte Campbell (sophomore) – 5.04 second drop in the 100 butterfly
- Keira Carmella (sophomore) – 2.4 second drop in the 100 freestyle (2nd place) and .65 second drop in 100 breaststroke (1st place)
- Ellie Daniels (sophomore) – swam near her best time in the 100 butterfly
- Lexi Furlong (freshman) – .65 second drop in the 100 breaststroke and close to a best time in the 50 freestyle
- Abby Harlan (senior) – 3.71 second drop in the 200 IM and 1.02 second drop in the 500 freestyle
- Morgan Harlan (junior) – 2.87 second drop in the 200 freestyle and 3.24 second drop in the 500 freestyle (2nd place)
- Grace Howard (sophomore) – dropped over half a second for her best time in the 50 freestyle
- Mary Kate Johnson (senior) – .84 second drop in the 50 freestyle (1st place) and .86 second drop in the 100 freestyle
- Lily Krausse (sophomore) – .64 second drop in the 100 breaststroke (after already dropping 4.86 seconds earlier in the week at the JV Invitational meet!)
- Sophie Lacovara (sophomore) – 1.36 second drop in the 500 freestyle and a solid swim in the 200 freestyle
- Brynn Laverty (freshman) – 1.7 second drop in the 100 freestyle and .55 second drop in the 100 breaststroke
- Allie Leamy (junior) – .69 second drop in the 200 freestyle and close to her best time in the 100 freestyle
- Aubrey Lydon (sophomore) – 3.52 second drop in the 100 backstroke and nearly matching her best time in the 100 freestyle
- Miranda Marino (junior) – swam close to her best times in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle
- Ellie McNamara (junior) – .62 second drop in the 50 freestyle (2nd place) and a whopping 11.46 second drop in the 500 freestyle (3rd place)!
- Elle Oldham (freshman) – 2.88 second drop in the 200 IM and 1.63 second drop in the 100 breaststroke
- Seraphim Rahardjo (senior) – 1.17 second drop in 100 butterfly and 2.45 second drop in the 100 breaststroke
- Lillian Roberts (freshman) – .12 second drop in the 100 freestyle and 1.91 second drop in the 100 breaststroke
- Riley Surak (sophomore) – 1.94 second drop in the 200 freestyle and took 8th place in the 100 butterfly
- Elle Whitton (sophomore) – after qualifying for the SECM meet at the JV Invitational meet earlier this week, she went near her best time again at the SECM meet!
The 200 medley relays came in 1st place (Morgan Harlan, Keira Carmella, Ellie McNamara, and Mary Kate Johnson) and in 7th place (Addie Campbell, Seraphim Rahardjo, Charlotte Campbell, and Miranda Marino). The 200 freestyle relays came in 7th place (Riley Surak, Aubrey Lydon, Miranda Marino, and Grace Howard) and in 12th place (Allie Leamy, Elle Oldham, Lexi Furlong, and Lillian Roberts). Finally, the 400 freestyle relays came in 1st place (Keira Carmella, Abby Harlan, Mary Kate Johnson, and Ellie McNamara – also a 6.47 second drop!) and in 11th place (Morgan Harlan, Aubrey Lydon, Lillian Roberts, and Riley Surak).
Boys
The DWest boys team is much smaller than the girls team. However, that didn’t stop the boys from putting on a show of their own. Congratulations to the following DWest swimmers:
- Sean Borkowski (junior) – 1.37 second drop in the 100 butterfly and .37 second drop in the 100 freestyle
- Cole Cichewicz (junior) – .2 second drop in the 50 freestyle and 1.16 second drop in the 100 breaststroke
- Henry Dennin (senior) – 2.71 second drop in the 200 freestyle (2nd place) and .72 second drop in the 100 freestyle
- Owen Durkin (sophomore) – after qualifying for the SECM meeting during the JV Invitational meet on Thursday (dropping 1.30 seconds in the 50 freestyle!), he swam close to his best time in the 50 freestyle and swam a solid 100 butterfly
- Jake Lennon (junior) – .49 second drop in the 50 freestyle and 1.27 second drop in the 100 freestyle
- Shane Martin (junior) – .42 second drop in the 200 IM (2nd place) and 1.01 second drop in the 100 backstroke (3rd place)
- Ryan Miller (junior) – went close to his best times in the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly (and it is only his first year on the team!)
- Austin Verlinghieri (sophomore) – .26 second drop in the 100 freestyle and .44 second drop in the 100 backstroke
- 200 Medley Relay (Austin Verlinghieri, Shane Martin, Sean Borkowski, and Henry Dennin) – 2.09 second drop
- 200 Freestyle Relay (Cole Cichewicz, Austin Verlinghieri, Owen Durkin, and Jake Lennon) – finished 9th overall!
- 400 Freestyle Relay (Sean Borkowski, Cole Cichewicz, Shane Martin, and Henry Dennin) – 5.49 second drop
