Day One of the PIAA District 1 Championship Meet

DWest looked strong on the first day of the PIAA District 1 Championship Swim Meet!

The girls swam in the morning.  The medley relay (Morgan Harlan, Keira Carmella, Ellie McNamara, and Mary Kate Johnson) dropped 1.03 seconds to place 9th – way to go, girls!  In the 200 freestyle, junior Morgan Harlan dropped over 2 seconds to place 16th and junior Ellie McNamara dropped 1.13 seconds to place 8th and make the podium.  Sophomore Keira Carmella also earned herself a podium spot with her 6th place finish in the 200 IM!  Then, senior Mary Kate Johnson went a personal best time in the 50 freestyle (24.57) and placed 9th.  Finally, senior Abby Harlan had a strong swim in her 100 butterfly and advanced three places from her seed time!

The boys swam in the late afternoon.  Senior Henry Dennin had another speedy swim in the 200 freestyle (1.47.74) and was one of the leaders in his heat.  Junior Shane Martin went a personal best time in the 200 IM (1.57.38), placed 14th, and picked up a new YMCA National cut.  Finally, junior Sean Borkowski made his debut at Districts with a fast swim in the 100 butterfly (54.27)!

Way to go Whippets!
