Day Two of the PIAA District 1 Championship Meet
DWest had another strong showing on the second (and last) day of the PIAA District 1 Championship Meet!
Although DWest had only five girls swimming at the meet, they came in 6th place overall in terms of points! This feat speaks volumes as to the strength of the girls who represented our team. In a fast 100 freestyle event, sophomore Keira Carmella dropped time to place 11th and senior Mary Kate Johnson went a speedy 55.43 to place 26th. The girls then destroyed the 500 freestyle with junior Morgan Harlan dropping 2.71 seconds to take 3rd place (and podium!), junior Ellie McNamara dropping almost 1 second to take 6th place (and podium!), and senior Abby Harlan dropping 1.79 seconds to achieve a personal best time and place 18th! Finally, the 400 freestyle relay (Keira Carmella, Abby Harlan, Mary Kate Johnson, and Ellie McNamara) dropped 1.58 seconds to take 4th place and a spot on the podium.
For the boys, DWest had one swimmer yesterday and he did his part to represent the team. Junior Shane Martin dropped .71 seconds in the 100 backstroke to take 7th place overall. That swim also earned him a trip to the podium!
Way to go, Whippets!!!
