DWest at the PIAA AAA State Championship Meet

Downingtown West High School West Swim and Dive

DWest had a strong showing at the PIAA AAA State Championship meet at Bucknell University this weekend, especially for a small team compared to many others.   Congratulations to these athletes for outswimming many others to even get to this meet!

For the girls, junior Morgan Harlan finished 6th in the 500 freestyle, which earned her some hardware and a podium spot!  Junior Ellie McNamara raced her way to 14th place finishes in the 500 freestyle and 200 freestyle, also scoring points for the girls.  Senior Mary Kate Johnson finished 25th in the 50 freestyle, going an impressive sub-25 (24.90).  Mary Kate Johnson and senior Abby Harlan also finished 14th in the state in the 400 freestyle relay, along with Ellie McNamara and Keira Carmella.  Sophomore Keira Carmella finished 14th in the 100 freestyle (with a personal best and speedy time of 52.37!) and 17th in the 200 IM.  Finally, the medley relay of Morgan Harlan, Keira Carmella, Ellie McNamara, and Mary Kate Johnson finished 17th in the state.

For the boys, junior Shane Martin represented the team by going a personal best and a sub-52 (51.93) in the 100 backstroke.  That time also earned him an 18th place finish in the state!

Many thanks to our coaches for putting in long hours during the season and guiding our athletes along the way!  Looking forward to seeing everyone – and celebrating everyone – at the banquet!!!
