DWest v. DEast Meet Recap

Downingtown West High School West Swim and Dive

As always, the DWest v. DEast meet was a packed house!  The girls won and the boys lost.  We saw many great performances, as well as a lot of camaraderie between the teams.  In addition, we came together to honor our senior swimmers in a truly special event.  It was a great night!

Swimming – First Half

200 Medley Relay – The girls killed it and took 1st place (Morgan Harlan; Keira Carmella; Ellie McNamara; Eden Russell).  The boys placed 2nd and improved their District consideration time by a whopping 2 seconds (Shane Martin; Cole Cichewicz; Sean Borkowski; Jake Lennon) – and this makes senior Jake Lennon a new District consideration qualifier!

200 Freestyle – for the girls, senior Ellie McNamara placed 1st and freshman Eden Russell placed 2nd.  For the boys, freshman Brewer Cianciulli placed 2nd and junior Austin Verlinghieri placed 4th.

200 IM – DWest saw a pair of 1st place finishes from junior Keira Carmella for the girls and senior Shane Martin for the boys (also kudos to Shane Martin for swimming the past 3 weeks with a broken toe)!  Juniors Charlotte Campbell and Aubrey Lydon placed 3rd and 5th for the girls and freshman Collin Byrne placed 4th for the boys.

50 Freestyle – one of the standout performances last night was the 1st place finish from junior Riley Surak!  Senior Miranda Marino placed 5th.  For the boys, senior Cole Cichewicz came in 2nd with a best time and senior Jake Lennon came in 5th.

Diving

The East West meet was another one for the books!  It’s always our favorite meet of the season because we get to dive with each other.  There were new dives thrown and even a can opener.  The judges had so much fun watching our divers compete because we always have a good time while also having fantastic sportsmanship and supporting each other.  There were no bad attitudes with any failed dives or low scores, we were all just out there to have fun and show the teams and the spectators all of the hard work we’ve been putting in this season.  The coaches could not be more proud to coach that big crew that was able to compete together yesterday.  Great job divers!

Swimming – Second Half

100 Butterfly – the girls swept this event with senior Ellie McNamara, freshman Lily Kirk, and junior Addie Campbell taking 1-2-3!  For the boys, senior Sean Borkowski took 1st place and freshman Collin Byrne took 3rd place.

100 Freestyle – for the girls, the freshmen ruled with Eden Russell placing 1st and Tara Bice placing 4th.  For the boys, junior Austin Verlinghieri placed 2nd and senior Alexander Sheldon placed 5th.

200 Freestyle Relay – both the girls (Aubrey Lydon; Charlotte Campbell; Lillian Roberts; Riley Surak) and the boys (Brewer Cianciulli; Sean Borkowski; Cole Cichewicz; Jake Lennon) came in 2nd.
